After months of waiting, and a couple of devestating unexpected expenses that wiped out my computer fund twice...the day as finally come for me to order my new computer. Or maybe it will be monday, ordering on a friday is kinda dumb plus it depends on how fast the bank can clear my direct deposit.

Anyways, very bad mojo today by the way, my banks online site just keeps crashing over and over, but i did get a quick peak into that account before they went down again =). I keep a seperate account for online stuff i want to buy.

Turns out I have 100-150 bucks extra to spend on a computer then the original 2666. So I leave it up to you guys....Improve this build by 100-150 bucks performance/convience wise.

Couple of notes:

1) I dont need a DVD-RW/CD-RW, as strange as it sounds, my printer i use has one on it and it works..so why bother spending money for a second one.

2) Keyboard/mouse/protection/speakers all taken care of already.

3) My wife already bought me a X-Fi for my birthday! (yay! 12 days away!)

4) I plan on adding or upgrading the ram a few months or less after i buy, which is why ive chose 2GB of the lowest DDR3 and didnt choose overclocking for the ram, after all, as far as i know the overclocked timings will just be wiped out. So no real point in that other then to get the fan, but thatd just make adding ram later a little more of a pain.

So with those in mind and 100-150 in hand...try to find somewhere to improve this thing...because ive sat here for an hour and i cant think of anything. Im not a huge fan of going from a GX2 to SLI 9800GTX, yes it is faster, about 5FPS more in crysis, but at current DS pricing, 111 dollars for 5FPS is NOT WORTH IT...even if i have 100+ extra to burn.  About the only thing i can think of is slapping on a 80GB hard drive and throwing the OS on there....not really a performance thing, but a nice little safeguard in case i blow out the OS.

Anyways, good luck, im off to work for a few hours =P (yes i only work 4 hours today haha)

Yea my problem was my cars engine went up, that cost about 1200 bucks to repair, and then i made the mistake of going to the dentist, and they wanted to give me a crown on one of my teeth, so there went some more money haha.

Looks like my bank hasnt cleared the direct deposits though =(. I guess ill have to wait till monday, that kinda bites, but I sorta expected it. Living in Arkansas now for a year, ive learned that EVERYTHING around here takes about 3 times longer then it should to do. Hell it took directv A MONTH to get out and hook up my dish after i moved.

Oh well, gives me time to double check every little option i can have lol.

Yea, i was thinking about getting mark06 or maybe vantage. Kelly recommended i up to 2GB of 1600 so they can run the ram at 1:1 when the FSB is overclocked on the CPU.

1600 ram sorta scares me though, im hearing so many horror stories about the 790i and overclocking with higher then 1333 ram where it eats your harddrive(s) So I dunno about that. Im really nervous as hell anyways that its gonna eat my hard drive reguardless..haha.

You have to have a 7.2GHz overclock to achieve a 1:1 ratio with a E8400 and DDR3 1600mhz ram -_-'

psh..no problem. Ill just throw it in the fridge.

yea i thought that was odd when he said that. But who was i to question kelly haha. Still id like to avoid that higher ram till i know that nivida has cleared up their problems with the 790 first, its one of the main reasons why im only selection 2GB of the lowest, cause im not sure yet if im gonna keep it and just go 4GB or upgrade to even higher speed later on.

i wish you guys would link to these builds =/////////////////

i think ddr3 is a bit overkill, and i'd persoanlly stick with 8800gts512, the margin for the price = not worth it

if you are paying for a chip OC, get the ram timings, you get the fans anyway and youll get more out of your system if you tweak both

I'd go with the 9800gtx before going with the 8800gts it a superior card for the same price.  Basicly the top single card equal to that of the 8800Ultra's for alot less money, most of the benchmarks show only a 3% diffrence in the 8800Ultras and 9800gtx's with a Gtx's only limiting factor is not having more then 512m of ram.

i hadnt realized the prices were getting so close; while the margin over the gts512 is mostly negligable, as he said, same $ so go for it. seems to me though, that the video market is starting to top out, the margin of this and the gx2 over the 8800gts512 are pretty pathetic considering how long its been out

I put a GX2 in my system because at least according to NVIDIA's benchmarks it tops any of their single card solutions, most of their SLI solutions and it is SLI capable if I decide to go that way later on.

Plus accordingly via the DS pricing, the GX2 is about the best high end choice at the moment. The single 88Ultra is close though. 2 98GTXs are 111 bucks more and offer very slightly better performance, and 2 88GTS are 107 bucks more and offer very slightly worse performance..lol.

So...i plan on using a 1000W Corsair and maybe eventually quad SLI a 9800GX2 (depends on how the 99s do though).

But on nvidias site they say the following about the 1000W corsair:

"A number of system power supplies in the market use a modular power connector to provide 6-pin and 8-pin outputs from the same cable. A subset of these modular connectors have a mechanical latch that is too wide and do not fit the 8-pin PCI-E power connector on the GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics card and are marked with an asterisk (***). These power supplies will work with the GeForce 9800 GX2 GPU with a PCI Express power connector adapter. NVIDIA is working with graphics card manufacturers and power supply vendors to offer an adapter to affected customers. Please contact your manufacturer of your product to obtain a replacement connector."

So does this mean if i really want to quad sli, im gonna have to get a special adaptor?

lol...i knew it. I was getting ready to drive to work today, and wham...a wheel bearing goes out in my car. Now the car vibrates badly and one of the wheels is getting a bit whobbly..... Luckly i have an old beater car (my first car ever!) that will get me to work till i take this in now to get fixed. By the way, I recommend you NEVER buy an american car...they are really horrible..there is no way a 39000 buck car with 55K miles should need major repairs 3 times already for various things.

Im taking it in for repair tuesday. It shouldnt be too much, so im just gonna use my savings....so im still on track to order tonight! but I HAVE to order tonight...cause ya...the feeling of doom and bad mojo is all over the place right now..haha.

ran that car into the ground at 200k miles and then got another olds
a 1994 88 ($2300) which took me to 260k before the trans gave out bc the previous owner pulled a BOAT with it (grr)

now i have a mustang which runs like a f***ing wet dream ... america is where real vehicles are made

I have not owned a vehicle not made in America in decades (well, actually that ain't 100 % true cause half the AMERICAN cars are now assembled in Canada and Mexico).  The only car I owned that was not American was right after I got out of high school in 1981 and it was time to get rid of my beater  1973 plymouth that was shot when I bought it for 300 buck in 1979.  I bought a Nissan Sentra cause it was the best I could get for the small amount of money I could afford each month.

Anyway, I always try to buy American in everything, but its getting harder everyday.

My currant 'fleet' is as follows:

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
2003 Ford Crown Vic
1970 Olds Cutlass W-31 (ya, rare as hens teeth.  Only 78 known to exist)
1964 1/2 Ford Mustang convert

Ya, its a sickness.  I have too many toys.  The last two are show cars, but I drive them.  They are stock / factory and the olds is restored to original and the mustang is 98 % original, less the new suspension I had to put in it (hey, 40 year old shocks were worn out) and new tires (finally said good bye to the bias ply).

How have I lately seemed to turn every post into a rant about anything except computing?

Welp....i pulled the trigger tonight. I dont think im good and spending lots of money, whenever i do, even if its something i want, i feel sick afterwards..haha.

The build is only slightly different from what i posted, I removed the case lighting (fluff i dont need really) and the CPU overclocking (ive read up a lot in the past weeks, i think i can pull it off myself). But added a 80GB drive for the OS, and lowered the 320 to a 250GB.

Grand total came to 2702.00. I also popped off an email to my bank letting them know about the purchase, so hopefully everything will go smooth between them and DS *crosses fingers*. They should be fine, they dont know my account with them is like my online purchase stuff account...but im sure theyve noticed it rise several times and suddenly drop to almost zero lol. This will be the biggest freefall for it though, so i hope they dont send off some warning bells.

Im happy to finally buy...but i still feel sick..oi! lol...

Well now its up to DS, build me a good one, no flakey mobos please =P. Try to get it here before June 11th lol. Pick me out a cherry of a CPU too please... Get the guy that always picks good stuff to pick my componets out of the basket..if you dont have one of those, have the guy do a praise the component gods to grant a good component dance just before he grabs one.

May the gods shine upon me and my addiction. Amen.

You know, Im bored now that ive ordered...since i cant play with the configuator and have as much fun as i used to...So now im just using the load config option and typing in random numbers to see what i get.

Thatd be a fun way to order a computer..just type in a load number and what you get is what you have to order.

Seriously though, its noon and DS still hasnt processed my order =P those slackers hahaha...Hopefully they process it at least in a week though. The temp upgrade of my debit limit only lasts though friday!

Edit: jeezus look at that one i picked..haha

If i remember right, you ordered a 9800gx2. I did also, got it friday, inside was a zotac 9800gx2. Never heard of that brand, is it any good? I thought they said 99% were evga. Lucky me. So if you want an evga better request it.
