I've read the book Lone Survivor about ten times. A fascinating book, especially from Luttrell's first person perspective.
Deep in enemy territory, your team is discovered by a sheep herder (or was it a goat herder?). The dilemma: kill the innocent civilian to maintain operational security, or let him go and risk the Taliban learning of your location? Luttrell's team let the innocent sheep herder go, and soon afterward more than 100 Taliban were there to kill them. I have always wondered if the military changed its rules of engagement on this point in light of what happened. A great read, well-written and now it's a movie. I will most definitely be seeing this one. Thanks for the heads up, sir. |
