So at the request of a friend of mine, I've been helping him design a gaming system with a very strict 1500 budget. After brainstorming and shoping around, here's what i got, and Im pretty sure I was able to get about as good as I can get for the money. I'm just posting it up here for feedback because I know most of you know what you're talking about.
You will notice that there is no SSD in this system, as I was trying to maximize what was absolutely necessary for they system in terms of performance, i do know SSD helps in ways, but I used that money for the 7950 GPU.
The second thing you might find interesting is that I'm calling for 16GB of RAM, I only do that because 8GB of it is only $40 for one, and easily OC'd to 1833MHz while being completely stable.

Case: Cooler Master HAF 932
HDD: WD 1TB 7200RPM Black
CPU: i5-2500k
MOBO: ASUS P8Z68-V LX LGA1155
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 3GB
Heatsink: Noctua NH-D14
Power Supply: Corsair Enthusiast Series 750W
RAM: 2x Samsung 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Media: Asus 24x Drive

Total Price: 1,495.91

Avelict,

I would recommend your friend to have a look at our ODE line of gaming PCs. They are very price competitive, are pre-tested, and come with a warranty and life-time customer support.

Have to agree with Alex on this one. The ODE 1 will easily top that custom build.
