    Posted: 19 Jul 2008 at 12:55pm
I too ordered my rig on 7/1, made a change over the Fourth of July weekend, and received the beast late yesterday afternoon.

The rig arrived in perfect condition - not even a dent in the box.

Expectations :

I had originally ordered the stock 9550.  Over the Fourth of July weekend I decided to upgrade to an overclocked  6850.  What I received was an overclocked 9550.  I am not sure what happened - perhaps the 6850 was out of stock.

I have Stage 3 cooling and had heard that it was very loud.  All I can say is someone must have some very sensitive ears or I must be going deaf.

Problems :

One of every six or 7 boots, it will not recognize the mouse (does not matter
whether I use the USB or PS2 connector).  When I say it does not recognize the mouse, I mean the mouse pointer is frozen on the windows screen (after logon)and the light on the optical mouse is dark. The first two times I booted the machine, I had a frozen mouse, the third time the mouse was fine.

First Impressions :

The machine is fast - a bat out of hell is slower.  It goes from power on to Vista 64 logon in about 30 seconds.  The machine is much larger than I expected.  It is the first PC I have ever had, where I had an upgrade in mind right after i got it unpacked - either memory, storage, or better video card.  It is also the first PC where I got the whole operating system as opposed to parts of control panel being disabled to keep customers from shooting themselves in the foot.  I still have not put the beast through its paces yet (Age of Conan), but I expect it will handle the game very well.  Based on what I have seen so far, you have another customer for life.

Get on the phone fast about that CPU, thats a huge difference in cost. Doubtful you or they will want to send it back just to swap out the CPU, they will probably just change the charge on your account.

Dunno about the technical problem though, ive never had an issue with mice before in all my years of fiddlin with computers. I guess youve already tried all the various ports and what have you to see if its just a bad port.

I think the stage 3 cooling could depend on the case too...the 850 stacker fans are gonna be on the side probaby pointing away from the user, the Cosmos S fans are pointing up on top. For me that means im about a foot away from 4 fans and they are basically angled at me..so its fairly loud, but not loud loud, after some time with my computer you drown it out.

Congrats Seelig, our rigs were born on the same day and sound pretty similar, though they treated yours a bit better in shipping it sounds like.

What did your overclock turn out like? Mine came out at 3.2.

I will call on Monday regarding the processor and the charges.

I have an Antec 900 case so that may be the reason it is much quieter.

I only tried the PS2 mouse port and one of the USB ports (on the back of the machine).  The USB ports on the top of the machine work fine for my passport drive, have not tried using the mouse there.  Once the mouse starts working, it doesn't stop until the next boot - where it may or may not work.

If you are using a special gaming mouse, or a mouse with functions, try installing it's driver is possible.

Regarding the processor, give me a call on Monday, 866-817-8676 EXT. 154.

Enjoy the Weekend,
Alex

New Problem :

The microphone in my headset does not work.  I can take the headset to my previous computer and the headset and mic work fine.  The headset works whether it is plugged in the audio jacks on top of the computer or using the multi-jack connector in the audio card.  The mic does not work in either case.

If I right click on the sound icon on the right side of the task bar, select recording devices, select microphone, then configure and go through the various steps, I get no indication that any sound is being picked up by the microphone.

I am not sure how to proceed.

I had that problem for a while also, but somehow I was able to fix it after messing with the settings for hours. Don't remember exactly what I did though... :/

Sound cards have always ticked me off. only advice i can muster is make sure the onboard mobo sound is turned off.

PS harley, you think your CPU is bad, there is a guy on the EVGA forums asking why is vantage scores are so low with 3 280GTX FTWs......hes trying to run those on an AMD Phenom at 2.3Mhz hahaha......he probably cant even run one GTX at full speed at that level, let alone 3 haha.

Thanks for all the pointers.  Still don't have it working yet - but at least I am not the only one having trouble with this.  The Razer Config App is a beast in itself.  Will let you know once i get this thing resolved.  Again, thanks for all the help.
