Going to say very little on this, to see if someone comes up with the same conclusion I did;

Playing a normal, not really taxing, game with music and another open window with a static page (information) when my machine flashed two bright flashes from monitors 2 and 3, waited 5 seconds and crashed to the bios screen.

When I reloaded everything the only thing that stands out to me is this...


Could it be time to ----- ?

I know you were in the market awhile ago, and setbacks hit you hard. Sorry for that. I don't like that temp any more than you do. It may be just a cooler issue, and be resolved that way, but I hope you are in a better place to glom onto some of the monster tech we have now.

The Lynx line is getting better all the time. Here's a comparison you might like:

For another $200, you can get an absolute monster from where you and I are with the Lynx Better. (I'm 5 years in on a 1070. )You can easily enhance the storage, and everything else is just aces for another long life gamer. And the GPU...well.

Thanks Cretae... We were ready to move on early last year, and even had put together the order.. then in short succession we lost my mother, a grandson and a forced early retirement for which I wasn't prepared (only 60). So yea, setbacks and all. So I'm afraid until we can find a way around this obstacle I'll be trying to keep this machine together with spit, balingwire, duct-tape and a prayer.   

I REALLY like Tidgxor's answer to this conundrum and the fact that Alex was the first to respond to this does give me hope of an envy green Aventum in my future! (Although to be fair, Alex has offered a discount on my future machine for my attendance to these forums which is very much appreciated and very generous of him.)

So we'll see....

As for the crash to bios, it hasn't happened again. Just that once and the temps are staying pretty much in nominal ranges.

Thank you friends... Appreciate that. We're settling into the new normal and moving forward.

We are starting to piece together a new machine, planning stages as of yet, with some budget allocations and compromises. A new machine is starting to be looked at as a 'reward' and not a 'frivolity' so it is getting a bit easier.

Although I believe the next machine will be less "Aventum" and more "Lynx" as Cretae pointed out earlier. At this point it is probably all I'm going to need.


I'll leave off with the words of the great philosopher of the 20th century, Bab Marley, when he said:

Snaike you are a wonderful person and always helping on these boards.

Wow to lose your Mother and Grandchild. That is so awful. And I'm so sorry. I mean that. I've lost so much family.

And then have to retire early? Wow. That's a lot.

I know people will say lucky you for retiring. I was supposed to retire this year at age 67. Last year my health was deteriorating. I had to retire. I loved my job/career and really miss it.
