So I really need to get a new GPU as this 8800 Ultra is dying slowly. (I've had to revive it by baking it in the oven twice... Yes it actually did fix it back to new except for the fact that it's still going to die out completely eventually). The card doesn't have a warranty as I got it for free. This card runs REALLY hot for me, even after I reapplied paste. Around 60-65c idle and can get up to 105c running folding@home/Furmark. About 80-95c in games. My case is open but I guess I still don't get enough airflow.

On this matter I'm considering getting a new GPU for $300 or less. I'm really thinking about the GTX275 as I love Nvidia. I've been pressured about going ATI, but I really dislike ATI. What would be the best card to get for that price. I'm also thinking about getting a cheap liquid cooling setup for the new card to fix these temperature issues. I really don't need LC for my CPU, just mostly for my GPU. Thanks for any advice.

I agree with you completely. Now, go ahead and buy an ATI card. First, the mandatory question, "What resolution do you game at?" Answer that question, and the proper ATI card will be surely be revealed. Right now I'd go for a Saphire 5770 or 5850 depending....

1680x1050, but might be going to higher resolution in the future.

I'm not all about folding. I just want a good card for $300. Would prefer Nvidia.

if you prefer nvidia then wait for Fermi, otherwise ati has the best cards out now for gaming.

275 is a good card also if you don't care about dx11 support.

Well I want the best card for $300 I can get within the next month or two. If an ATI card is only slightly better, I'd rather still go with Nvidia.

5850 is the best card you can get right now for $300.

I finally got a 5870 again, and I will probably never go back to NVIDIA unless I am folding.

Last time I messed with ATI the drivers were awful and I know that some games also just run better on Nvidia. If I were to wait about two months would there be anything from Nvidia that might be reasonable?

Also 1680x1050 but might be getting a new monitor with higher resolution in the future.

for 1600 x 1200 1 x 5850 or 1 x 275, the 275 does not support dx11 while the 5850 does.

in a couple of month some good cards should be out but I'm not sure of the prices, I would still wait.

Only problem is this Ultra is slowing dying. Don't want to have to bake it in the oven again.

I'm also curious as to what my options for a low end liquid cooling system would be. My GPU's run way too hot for me and I think liquid cooling is the only way. I've never setup liquid cooling, but I'm sure I could if I just read up a little more.

You are better off getting a good rad/pump/wb and etc, otherwise you won't be happy.

cant wait for when they have 18" card that have 3 GPU's on them... I could see DST grabbing four of them for folding.

Anyone mind throwing together a list of components I would need for a complete liquid cooling system? Only have one GPU. Just a decent one that would get the job done. Parts can be from newegg or whatever.
