Topic: Thinking about a second DS Posted: 21 Nov 2021 at 1:04pm |
So I am back from the dead, haven't posted here in years - I have a Dreadnaught and looking for a Lumos possibly.
Unfortunately, my initial experience with DS wasn't good - the computer was horribly wired amongst other things and I had to send it back, it's wasn't fun when it is so big and heavy, major hassle. Anyways, looking to give them another try and it's been fun configuring out my new PC with DS again, considering ****** seriously too. ... competitor name removed ... Welcome back! Cannot comment on a competitor as a courtesy to DS who maintains this forum for its users. Its name will probably be censored. You should let the configurator gurus know what resolution and games/work you play and they will create a system particularly suited to those needs/wants. Then you can compare with others to see how they measure up. Enjoy. Edited by hoserator - 21 Nov 2021 at 2:51pm |

I just replaced a 12 year old DS beast with a screaming new Velox with beautiful smoked glass sides. I just got it Saturday and it works amazingly right out of the box.
Between DS and your home there are people that don't appreciate the precious cargo they carry. I know for a fact that Digital Storm takes Quality Assurance serious and they pack up a monster machine at DS then we all hope the delivery people are in a good mood in transit! |

If you are not up on the most recent tech advances and trends in gaming, there are a few very costly mistakes you could make configuring. If you tell us your monitor resolution and budget, we may be able to help you.

If you only will have one SSD I would suggest the 980 PRO. I have both a 970 evo plus & a 980 Pro. Here is some info I found at https://seekingtech.com/970-evo-plus-vs-980-pro/
1TB 970 EVO Plus: Up to 3,500 MB per second 1TB 980 PRO: Up to 7,000 MB per second I am using a 500MB 980 PRO for my primary OS drive 500GB 980 PRO: Up to 6,900 MB per second For my game library I am using a 1TB 970 EVO Plus 1TB 970 EVO Plus: Up to 3,500 MB per second |

Your build may be an example of what I'm talking about. If this is going to be primarily a gaming machine you have no need for a 5950X.
https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-9-5950X-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-5800X/4086vs4085 That whopping 2% worth $365 to you? The 5900X isn't any better. https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-9-5900X-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-5800X/4087vs4085 Gaming still does not benefit much from an abundance of cores, and that is not about to change for the life of this build. Your selection of 64GB of RAM is not a good idea, either. For gaming, you will rarely have need of more than 16GB, and 32GB of the 64 will ALWAYS remain idle, doing nothing for you. A total waste of your dollars. Get 32 GB if you want for "future proofing". I do recommend the RTX 3080 for the widescreen pixel count. The disastrous issue with DRM conflicting with the new Alder Lake Procs from Intel now has a work-around, and may be resolved before you could take delivery. If you want the best gaming speed then, and DDR5 RAM which speaks directly to your primary motivations, get the 12700K and 32GB of DDR5. https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-12700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-5800X/4119vs4085 Now that's a difference that makes sense for the money. Just like the 5950X, the 12900K brings nothing to the table worth the extra cost. https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i9-12900K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-12700K/4118vs4119 Putting all this together, here's a sample build; https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=4182186 This is cutting edge, newest and best without overspending for no purpose. Entirely up to you of course what you do, but this is a better system. Be sure to note you want SATA cables in the remarks section. Since it so rarely happens, I don't know if they'd be included or not automatically. Power cables will be there from the PSU. |

There are a lot of smart folks here in the forum that are willing & able to help you optimize your new monster beast! I am not one of the smart ones, but like yourself I was checking in the Forum to catch up on the new stuff before I upgraded!
They squared me away even though I went a little crazy & got the 5900X anyway. I figure I might solve a world problem like Climate Change someday if I put it to good use. Remember that the Digital Storm Professional Staff are just a phone call away too if you want to discuss specific technical considerations that are important to you. Between the fine folks here in the Digital Storm Forum & the Digital Storm Staff, I am a very satisfied Gamer just chilling in Bliss! Edited by Onkel_Ken - 23 Nov 2021 at 7:49pm |

So I tried using their expert chat yesterday speaking to CJ and asked if there's RGB LEDs on the cooler when I upgraded the fans, his answer was I don't know... How is that seriously a helpful answer and didn't offer to find out until I pressed him twice and he said he would check but didn't reply, i ended the chat in frustration

You're very welcome!
With supply chain the way it is, it may be they get different shipments. Awhile back, I saw pics of one of my first DS branded dual fan coolers and the heatsink assembly attached to the CPU had a very cool-looking multi-color pastel look. It did not have a DS logo that I recall. The latest pic from Onkel_Ken did not show the colors but had the logo. Info awhile ago from Alex, when the supply chain first began to fail, was that they had to discontinue Corsair AIOs but they were getting theirs from the same factory. No decline in quality. Best guess it may vary, or CJ is just new. You get any issue you can't get straight, Alex ([email protected]) is the answer man. |

You don't have to quote me back to me.
Corsair does not make their own coolers. They buy from the same factory DS uses and slap their own brand on it just like DS is doing. |

The AIO on the CPU is round with a DS logo cutout allowing a rainbow of colors to shine through as well as a colorful circle on the rim of it. The dual fans also have a matching beautiful colorful light pattern. |
