I purchased a I7 extreme 1 with the following changes from the default:

Memory increased to 6gb 1600 mhz by mushkin.
and a 5850 graphics card.

What would be my ideal monitor size?

I am considering getting this monitor, is it is too large for my system?

Thanks!

What's your budget on the monitor? Also, in general, look for something with a wider viewing angle, it indicates a better make. Another thing, you do want to retain max res in games and such? Is that why you're asking?

look for a monitor that has the same Viewing Angle, both vertical and horizontal, and is at or above 170°, this is a sign of a quality panel on a monitor, assuring great picture quality.

if a monitor has around 1900 x 1200 res, and you want to game at highest settings with aa and af, then you need 2 x 5850, or 2 x 275 or 1 x 5870.

I'm looking for the monitor that will provide the best performance for gaming. I want to keep the price under $200. I know monitors can run a lot but I have seen some well reviewed dells and samsungs on sale for just under $200. I'm mainly concerned that by going with a monitor larger than 22" I may lose quality in the graphics etc.

a big monitor with poor picture quality is not a great monitor.

that monitor is a tn panel and you don't want a tn panel.

be careful with reviews, they are mainly done withing a day or two or owning a monitor and most people are not experienced enough to give a proper review of a monitor, we see this all the time even when companies review products.

He also wants to stay under 200 bucks DST, you don't get better than TN on that budget. The only thing even remotely close is the Dell 2209WA and the lowest that goes is 212 bucks ( that i've seen ) and it's backordered into next year (assuming you find someone willing to sell it). Otherwise, it's a corporate crapshoot. The Dell might serve ya well for that price but definitely shop around all ya can.  DST is right though in general.

I don't see a point of paying money for crappy monitor, one would be better off waiting and saving a bit more and getting a good monitor for their money.

If somebody wants to stay under a budget, you don't see me sending them to crappy builders that are cheaper, just so the person stays in their budget, I tell them to wait or build themselves.

I understand what you are saying, but thats where I'm coming from.

You ever look at the price of non-TN panels? It's not pretty... well lemme rephrase, it's not pretty on my budget.

Anyway, i see your point of view... i'm just following immediate instructions given.

Btw, if everyone saved money, we wouldn't be in the financial crapper in this country so I rather applaud your efforts.. sort of.

Ya the non tn panels do cost, but I think after a while you would not like your tn anyways, but if one can't wait to save money cause they can't save anymore money, then you got to do what you got to do, I've been there many times myself, but IMHO, the best choice is always to wait.
