This is the same config. I ordered a few days ago. Does anyone know what I can expect after it is overclocked/tweeked or can you post the speeds you got on the same( or close to it) config??

From what I have seen so far all the q9550's with liquid cooling that have come out of DS are maxed at 3.6GHz.
people with 1333MHz ram and people with 1600MHz ram have had the same speeds. now I don't work for DS and DS does not guarantee any OC speeds, I'm just telling you what I have seen here. maybe you get lucky and be teh first stable 3.8GHz. |

no I don't have that yet, but I have heard it OCs well, and I see you got the dual loop LC so you are sitting pretty
I have not seen a q9550 with dual loop LC on 790i with 1600MHz ram, you may just be the one that gets higher speeds then usual. You never know, I would be happy with 3.6 on a q9550, if you know what you are doing, you can squeeze more out of it. |

Dual loop was to much money so I just got single loop. I just spent $4000 at bestbuy on a t240hd monitor, a ln52a850 hdtv and m1000ultra hdmi cables ten minutes before I ordered my DS rigg. I was not even going to water cool and oc my gpu but I wanted an overclocked gpu and It needs to be cooled. 3.6 is cool with me I didnt think it would go that far.

oh single loop, please when you get your pc back let us know the oc speeds.
I like to see how much of a difference single loop with one oc card will make. I hope its ok otherwise 3.6GHz might not happen. why did you OC the gpu btw? Edited by DST4ME - 11 Oct 2008 at 5:40am |

Cause i could not get an sli rigg and need all the power I can get. I am planing to wait till the first of the year to have DS install a second 280 water cool it and over clock it. I really want a sli rigg but dont have the extra six or seven hun for it. Never had a nvidia gpu before and dont know much about sli but dont you need two of the same gpus running at the sam speeds to do it??

Hey Im not stupid!! I cant spell worth a crap but I do know a thing or two about pcs. My last pc was bought 6 years ago, my prosseser was an atlonxp 3000+. I kept it alive that long by installing my own parts no tech support and before it died in lst month it ran crysis at 35 fps med. settings at 1280 by 1024. So im not stupid just always had ati cards and could not afford to up grade until now. All i know about sli is what I have read over the years. You seem like you know alot more about it then I do so I asked you to help me understand it better. But I wont ask youto help again!!

So who hit 4.2 mark? What CPU was it? Their Twister Boost logo boasts 4.2 speeds.
Do you remember ANY rigs getting that high that were built here? Duos/Quads?

How does it hang vs Quads (both CPUs OCd close to or over 4) ? Or you didnt compare Edited by Nomak - 11 Oct 2008 at 11:03am |

I cant seem to find any reason to go with a quad for a gaming rig, and whatever reasoning i have seems to dissappear ever more slowly with each day.
Are there any worthwhile games opt. for quads yet? Will there be in 4-5 years? Any titles that i have missed worth mentioning that are coming out in 2-3 years?

Supreme commander seems to like the quads. But even then consider the difference in FPS is less then 5 all other components being the same.
Id actually say that they will probably start to really get the move on soon on programing games to use more cores, especially after people start to buy the I7 and start to realize that for the most part they now have 6 or more threads basically running at idle or slightly above. That will probably make Intel start to complain or work with the programers to get their products up to date faster....maybe.
Fallout 3 seems to recommend a duo core, so i guess that will nope
Ive heard rumors that Diablo 3 will use quad core, but kinda like FS they will just use the last 2 cores to handle the textures and lighting.
Id say games will be mostly quad opimized by 2-3 years from now...ya know...when the 16 core CPUs are out.
