So, I purchased my latest DS system in September of 2009.  It is time for an upgrade or two.  I am currently running a pair of Radeon HD 4890 (1GB) in Crossfire configuration. I would appreciate some input from the community on what is available.   I am would like to keep this in the $300 to $400 range.  I am not a purist, so AMD or nVidia would be fine.  I think I would prefer a single card over two, unless there was a compelling reason to do two. (Thinking being one card now could be crossfired later for a cheap boost)

What would you do?

Well I think everyone would first like to know what type of games you usually play and at what native resolution... but based on what you wrote and also your budget, I think a GTX570 may be sufficient for you.  Also, there are new GPU's coming out in a few months so if you can hold off till then, that is an option.. although, I am not sure what $300-$400 will get you as I usually see the top of the line cards for over $500 when they first come out.

I am using a Sumsung SyncMaster 2433BW monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1200.  I play MMO's, currently in the earkly access for Star Wars:TOR, but still might launch LOTRO, Pirates of the Burning Seas, Champions Online, and my starter games.....The City of Heroes/Villians games.  I will likely play The Secret World when it launches next year. I do not, and probbaly never will, play shooters. (I suffer from a serious case of simulator sickness whenever I try FP Shooters)

I have found that I have had to crank my vid setting way down on SWTOR to keep my framerate at an acceptable level, thus, the decision to upgrade.

Having said that, I do like the eye candy, and I like to run my MMO's with the graphics cranked as high as I can.

I also, as a rule, will not buy the newest generation stuff, because I find it wildly overpriced, and if you try to stay at that level, you will be constantly chasing a moving target.  To much cash for to little return, so I think I would like to stay in the 3-4 hundred dollar range, unless.........someone can convince me to go higher.

Thanks.
