Alright so im building a new rig to replace my laptop i've been gaming/working on. The main uses of the system are gonna be, gaming (fps, rts, wow, etc.) and I am also going to use it for 3D design with programs like 3ds Max and Revit, and probably a little bit of photoshop. I have a relatively good understanding of the new components out there, and the costs involved to make a 3d rendering program work at insane speeds. However, my budget is around $2500 so i know 3ds max wont render a scene that looks like crysis in 18 seconds. I plan on buying a raptor 10k drive and another 3GB of RAM soon after i buy it. Main concerns i have are: Is the water cooling worth it?
Do i go for the GTX295 or SLI 2 GTX260's?
What is the benefit of going with EVGA mobo vs the ASUS?

im gonna use my 24inch monitor which is 1920 x 1200 most of the time and when i want to ill move my computer downstairs and play on my 52inch which i think is actually the same. btw, ive never had a liquid cooling system before, does DS ship it with the coolant already in the lines or is that some thing i have to do, and is it a good idea to move LC systems around?

The only thing that I wondered about the configuration was that I felt that you should have chosen 64 bit Vista for $15 more. 32 Bit only supports 4 GB including MB RAM & GPU RAM. Your current configuration uses 3GB MB RAM & 1.792GB GPU which already exceeds 4GB even before you consider future upgrading of another 3GB. For $15 more you can can fully support your current MB RAM and GPU RAM and provide the potential for upgrading the additional 3GB MB RAM you mentioned you may want in the future. In addition this would avoid the grief of redoing the OS from 32 Bit to 64 Bit which would be a hassle at the very least. |

sorry forgot to answer your questions:
Is the water cooling worth it? yes it is Do i go for the GTX295 or SLI 2 GTX260's? gtx 295 What is the benefit of going with EVGA mobo vs the ASUS? not much of a difference, the evga has more room and I think now can handle higher speed ram then the asus. |

i didnt factor the $150 discount into the previous builds mainly because due to my finances I might not be getting this for about a month, and was unsure if the discount would still be around |

not sure and I would recommend you reconfig when you are ready to buy, the configurator has changed much since last month
who knows what things are around and how much they cost in a month
as for the specials they come and go, not sure if that is going to be here in a month either Edited by DST4ME - 10 Jan 2009 at 4:22pm |

awesome thanks man, i actually just read another thread where someone was asking the same question about the 260 SLi vs the 295 andi concur, the 295 is the better deal that its is basically 2 gtx260s and a 280 combined

I am glad you decided to take DST4ME's advice and go with 6GB from the get go. Out of the box you will be running an overclocked CPU dream machine with the RAM needed to allow it to roar!!!!!

yes this is correct its a better deal and it out performs 2 x 260 and 2 x 280 GTX. @darkmanstud, I would have given him the 1000w but with his budget the ram is more important then the PSU and if I added both his budget would have been blown way out, but you are right 1000w is better for the long run. Just realize I didn't answer this question for you, the LC system is air tight so you can flip/move our PC any way/where you like
