    Posted: 12 Jan 2010 at 1:47pm
I started a thread in another forum about the desktop I wanna get and they directed me here. So here goes,

I am 13 years old and I go to a boarding school in Jordan ( one of the top 20 in the world try to find its name!) I love to play games but I have never done so properly so I guess you can call me deprived. I went to Alienware in search of a laptop and found the M17x but I was about to spend 2500 dollars on something that I would be throwing away 2 years from then so I started looking for a desktop. Alienware's desktops were ridiculously expensive and they didn't have the graphic cards I wanted. So a month ago I read last month's edition of PC Gamer (The one about Star Wars) and I saw alot of Ads for Digital Storm and other companies. I got on my laptop and searched for this foreign "Digital Storm". I spent about a week obsessed with customizing and re-customizing a desktop for around 4000 dollars. I fell in love with this website so much that I didn't go to any of the other ones. I had been researching getting a laptop or desktop for 2 years and I was so glad to finally find one that came at an affordable price! I mainly focused on graphic cards when I was customizing my system and selected the triple SLI Nvidia GTX 285 Card, however when I did so I realized I would have to get a motherboard that supported this kind of raw power and that added another $130. I also would have to get cooling $990 and the graphic cards cost $1224. That's alot of money! So I decided to go to the forums and ask for help. When I did so people told me that I had spent too much for my age and they suggested I get a single graphics card. From their advice I realized I was truly confused and spending too much on the wrong things.

Before I end this message there are 3 things I must tell you guys.

1) This will most likely be shipped to Cyprus or Syria
2)I amn't sure about how I can convince my dad to let me get this for when I spoke to him I told him I would spend 2000 dollars and even then he didn't like it
3) I will be getting my rig this Summer

Any advice...?

Thanks!

what size of a monitor?  What is the primary use of the new PC?

Also if you are getting it this summer, most of the parts that people would suggest for you today, will not be the same parts they will suggest by summer.

In 3 moew months you will be able to get a great PC for that $2000 price range, still  can now, but in 3 months you will get a more powerful PC for the same $$  if you can wait that long. lol

1. Yes
2. We are also clueless about your choice in monitor
3. No
4. Same here.

Before suggestions and advices, they're going to ask on monitor resolution
Mainly because they don't want to recommend you a video card or certain specific part of the pc that will be over-kill.
So, with that being said. Just check out a monitor that you're interested in
OR you can ask us what monitor is recommended within your Price range for Monitor (excluding the price of the pc)

and you should have a suggested build and price range set by the end of the day Angry

OR
NEC EA241WM or HP Dreamcolor LP2480zx

with that being said, Nowe we can config your pc.
your gaming res is about 1920x1200 for single

eyefinity can do 6 monitors off of 1 card and it works as displaying as a single picture. so running 3 monitors for ex will have the same requirements  as 1 in terms of gpu. you need a ATI card for this.

also extremely important what games do you play now?

what games do you want to play that your current computer may not be able to handle if any?

what do you plan to play in the future?

what settings level do you want to play at?

each game is different and will give you different frames per second on the same hardware. some games are cpu dominant while others are gpu dominant

if your dad wasn't happy about $2000... then what makes you think he will agree to $2500 - $3000.

also international shipping is very expensive just to make a note

if your waiting until summer to buy any build we give you now is just something that you will be fantasizing about. yet the other side of the coin it will let you know what you get for your $.

by the summer you will have the following

price drop on ati cards
news of new ati card
fermi debut (nvidia 300 series gt, gtx, gtx2)
price drop on ssd
possibly larger volume ssd (they are already out but very expensive 500 gb $1700, 1 tb $4000)
usb 3.0
sata 3.0
and most imortant saved for last... gulftown debut the new i9 processor 6 cores 12 threads (will be very expensive)

2.5 Ghz Core duo
Nvidia 9500 gt
3 gb 1033 Mhz ram

if we can't answer a question shoot a e-mail here.

as Raif said, international shipping will be really expensive on top of that of a DS pc alone.

I don't play any games now because I don't have a good enough computer.
I will be playing all the crysis games.
I will also be playing strategy games
I wanna play at moderate-advanced. 7.5 outta 10
I really want to get 2 monitors and if you guys can find a well priced one 3. But everything must stay within price range

It looks like if you config DST4ME's spec in the Special Deals instead of Black Ops it actually comes out a couple hundred dollars cheaper for you for the same rig.

I dont think their is anything in this config that forces you to use Black Ops (I may be wrong).

Enjoy!!

I don't think he really needs the classified, to be honest.  Also, his stated budget preference was 2500-3500, and your build goes over that, not including international shipping (HUGE).

Considering the budget he set, I say drop the classified down to the normal X58 SLI and switch out the SSD, while using the the special deals prices.  That should save nearly a grand right there, which will defray the cost of international shipping, with only a very, minimal hit to performance.

he said his budget was $4000 and if he had a problem with the price he could have said it himself and we would have adjusted somethings to bring price down.

second he is getting 2 gpus, with a possible third, the classified puts room between his 2 gpus and give better temps, the regular will stick both gpus next to each other giving higher temps.

I wouldn't call better temps and speed of the ssd minimal performance, granted for games all the ssd does it load them faster but in other areas it does help more.

yes it is a 4k budget but w/ monitor included.

maybe drop the classified for 3x and request they be put in slots 1 and 3 which is the way it should be done away. that will also allow him to go to the special hot deals and it will be cheaper

secondly does he really have need for all that space? maybe a 500gb on hdd2 will better serve his needs.

also will he ever upgrade? think about shipping from syria to here and back just to upgrade...so if he says he will never upgrade it then there is isn't a point in the 3x sli and he should go either for the LE or the Micro which will save him even more in return.

we still don't know this kids resolution so 2x 5870 could be serious overkill lets just play it as 1600 x 1200 to be safe.

lastly eyefinity can run 6 identical monitors as if it were just running 1. so again unless he is runnning a huge monitor there isn't a need for 2. also he said he didn't really care about highest settings he can run crysis at max with that just with no aa... or high at 4x aa. (just 1x 5870)

3x has to be lane 1 and 2 not 1 and 3.

what kind of fps are you expecting on crysis across 2 x 1900 x 1200? he is not gonna get good fps.

again if he has any objections he can tell us, its not my place to assume all that stuff.

I'm sure they have gpus where he is at or closer to him then here, its the whole system that he can't get build like DS does closer to him.

you will find that you do want atleast 4GB of memory, but if you want to go with 3GB then go ahead, but I would say lets change the HDD setup and keep the 6GB of ram.

right now ati gives you the best performance for current games and future games, but if you want nvidia then go with 2 x 275.

lol oh ok, well if its not in your buget we can drop the ssd all together, or we can go with a 120GB, just remember with drives you want to get something that will not get filledup pass 50%, which is why you want to set it up so that:

HDD1 = os/apps/games

HDD2 = file storage.

ok so before I change the specs, what budget would you like to be in?

what is the difference? the mobo, the first one will give you better temps since the cards will have space between them, but the 2nd build will be fine too, also the first build has more pci lanes so you can do tri sli/cf and 2 other cards( like a sound card), the second one can't do that.

Down the road buy a ssd and use that for HDD1 for OS/Games/Apps, and push the 1TB to HDD2 and use it for storage.
