In what situation would you need a Tri Sli over a dual Sli?  I'd imagine if you are using multiple monitors at 2560x1600 res?  Maybe in the next gen games in a year or two?  The card I have in question is the 570.  I actually personally don't even need Sli right now as I'm playing all my games at 1920x1200 but I'm just curious.

Thanks,
Benson

sli is reccomended for running higher settings on 2560x1600. Don't even think about future proofing because the issue is you can spend 1k on just the gpu and get tri sli now and it will last a bit but next year you can get that performance for $700 and they year after that $300 as graphics cards and components get more powerful over time. just as we thought x58 was so great and oc'd so well, now sb oc's better and is much more powerful. for the same price.

When you need tri sli is dependent on what you are trying to achive, with what game and what res, if you want metro at 2560 x 1600 with aaa, DX11, highest settings, and over 40 fps, then you need tri sli 580.

not all games are like that, but that is an example of when you could need it, it all depends how many fps you are trying to get and what game/aa settings you want.

Another reason for tri sli/cf can be 3D gaming, 3D cuts frame rates in half, so you need twice as much power to get 60 fps.

Another reason for tri sli/cf is mulit monitors, 2 ( or more) x (1900 x 1200 res monitors) = tri sli/cf.
