Sooooo I customized a machine, but after trolling the forums for awhile, it seems silly vs. the ODE V2 Level 4...
I'm coming off of a fairly disapointing Dell Alienware m15x (power/throttling ruins a lot of games ), and don't need a laptop as much anymore, and am looking for a solid screaming desktop. I expect it to last a fairly long time with upgrades (especially large SSD's when they become cheap cheap), and to have zero (0) problems with games coming out the next 5 years.
Budget: ummm 2k to 3k (ish), inexpensive is better Expectations: fast boot run fast and cool quiet handsome hi-def I/O jacks-a-plenty Usage: Counterstrike Counterstrike Source Team Fortress 2 Civilization V Call of Duty probably Dell Ultrasharp x2 Special Needs: no throttling/power issues wireless anti-obsolescence upgradable Saved Ticket #: 703814 from trolling, I think my own comments would be: - anything after 1600 ram is unnecessary and generally unnoticible - 1200W Power Supply is probably overkill (I chose this as a direct result of the m15x's underpowered-ness) Specifications: 70 Gb files (currently) 30 MB/sec connection Questions: Is the ODE noisy? Is the Level 4 upgradable or maxed out? In my configuration's power supply, what does Silent Edition mean? In what order do desktop upgrades generally go? Would quad-SLI do anything above dual? Can you change the ODE lighting color? Can you paint/laser etch the ODE case? Should I get Windows Home or Pro? How much does the ODE weigh? What, in your honest opinion, am I completely overlooking? Thanks much, 84 |

Hi 84mph...Welcome to the forums.
You are right...This build compared to the ODE 4 is a bit silly. For $400 more you're getting a case with minimal cooling, more ram than you need and the psu is overkill and no SSD and the cpu cooler isn't as good and video cards with less performance with most games. 8GB ram is all gaming needs, and the 2133MHz speed is unnoticable and can cause oveclocking instability. I would recommend the 8GB 1600MHZ if you stayed with this build. Your build has the Deluxe mobo with built in WiFi, so the extra WiFi card isn'r needed. The 1200W psu is only needed if you went to quad sli gpu. I would definitely go ODE 4 instead of this, It has the 600T case with very good cooling, the SSD for speedy loads, 240mm rad cooler vs the 120mm rad and sli gtx 670. Her's a link that compares the single gtx670 to the single HD7950 cards. The 670 will give you better performance. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/550?vs=598 I would go ODE 4 for sure. It is DS's best bang for the buck system. The ODE is not noisy. Compared to a small, off-the-shelf pc with a single fan in the back it is noisier, but it's not bad at all. The level 4 can be upgraded to more ram or better video cards when they come out and there are lots of bays open to add drives, etc. Most power supplies are quiet so I never got the Silent Edition thing. For order of upgrades, the graphic card is usually the thing first replaced in a couple of years to stay current. You would have to ask DS if they would change internal lighting. They might but they will charge $50 extra for the change I believe. Ask DS about Laser Etch.. I'm not sure. Win7 Pro is needed if you ever go above 16GB ram. I think the ODE weighs about 40-50 lbs. If you want to see a custom build that has the same performance as the ODE 4, one of us can help. But, it will be more $$ than ODE 4 if you want SSD, blu-ray etc. Custom does allow you to pick whatever you want however, so your call as always. Hope this helps and good luck. [QUOTE=FrankW] Hi 84mph,
Here is a better build than the ODE LV=4. I dropped the things you don't need and added what you do need. I left in the 1200w PS in case you want to go three GPUs in the future. You could probably do it with a 1050w PS but the 1200 gives you more flexibility. Thanks for the link bprat22, and no offense taken at all :) I'm glad that the mobo has wireless - I didn't realize that to begin with.
FrankW - if I wanted to upgrade to triple-SLI in the future, I could upgrade the power supply then, yes? And with only 8GB, I think I could stick with Win7Home until Windows 8/9 comes along when I upgrade. I suppose the cases can be subjective too, but in the short term, $500 less is pretty nice... Anyone on here that owns an ODE V2 Level 4? |

@84mph, thank you for your interest in Digital Storm! To change any item on the ODE, such as the lighting color, it will be an extra $50. For the laser service, it will be an extra $50 plus the cost of the laser service you wish to order (prices can be calculated from other customizable configurations)
