Yesterday I purchased the "Orange Box" tried to install it this morning and it gave me an error message? Didn't install.

I tried to install Quake 4 and I got a message that the game has known issues ... wouldn't install

I can go on! I did have success loading and running MOH Airborne so it ain't hardware.

Can you guess what operating system I'm using .. can you say Vista.

I have never had problems installing any game on my second machine ... can you say XP

Anyone else have problems with Vista game installs and I would appreciate any guidance on how to overcome my problem.

Thanks
Ken Smile

Since starting to reload my games on my new system, I had one instance that said something to the effect of "not tested on this O/S" but it ran fine. I d/l'd HL2 EP2 right from Steam and had no problems.

Games I've installed so far with no problems:
Bioshock
World in Conflict
BF2 (minor problem with punkbuster kicking me out due to unrecognized OS but heard there is a work-around for that)
Steam (Orange box et all)
Supreme Commander

Still have more to load up, but so far most of the things I've seen relate to just getting current drivers for video cards.

Make sure that on the install executable that you go to properties and check the Windows XP Compatibility check box.  This will usually clear up the problem.

You may also have to do it on the Game executable also.

Same here.  Since MS released these hotfixes for vista, http://www.nvidia.com/object/windows_vista_hotfixes.html, I haven't had a single problem with a single game.

And, to stop the "why didn't you install it on my system?" flame before it starts, we are now installing them on all systems shipped after 10/1.  These were only released in sept.

Matter of fact, I haven't had one freaking issue since I got this system from you guys.  I keep waiting for something to blow, but every morning I come back to my office she's sitting there purring like a kitten after a warm bowl of milk.  Oh, that's me.
