hey everyone, i am new here. i am in the air force and looking to build a new desktop system. i am currently on an asus g72gx notebook but im wearing it out using it all the time. i want to use it for mobility and deployments primarily. i want to go back to my roots of owning a gaming desktop system. i have been building them from scratch on newegg and came across this site. i like this place better and its easier to configure a system. i am rather frustrated trying to get a good build together.  im very out of touch with the latest processors and what i really want in a system. i dont do a ton of gaming like i used to so something with more functionality and gaming on the side would be nice.  i dont need a high powered system and i want to spend around $1100 for a build with a monitor. i really like the 23" monitor or 25" monitors i see out there.  i have been configuring systems all week this week and cant come up with what i want that is a good balance of power and not be too expensive.  everyone is throwing advice at me over what is good and what is not so my frustration level is just growing because i am so out of touch with the latest hardware.  im at the point where i just dont want to build a system from scratch and i really dont know what i want or what route to take! i play shooter games like team fortress 2 and i do play world of warcraft every now and then.
some of the simple stuff i am starting with:
500gig hard drive (i dont fill up hard drives often)
6gigs of memory
integrated audio

everything else is up in the air.  people told me not to buy an amd phenom processor and get an intel. then i have 2 people arguing over which processor is better (at work) and just goes on and on.
