Topic: Trying to optimize build Posted: 01 May 2010 at 3:14pm |
Im trying to get the best build i can with a 6500$ limit so far i have what i think is pretty good and it comes to about 6350$ but im thinking about getting some better hard drives in it. I know i can get 2 1tb 32mb exstream speed hard drives and it will still work with my limit. And i might go with a 1200w ps instead on a 1000. if anyone could help that would be great. thanks :D

Having studied at the feet of the masters, I can offer a few ideas.
6GB of 2000 MHz ram is better for the 980
1200w PS is recommended for headroom on 480 SLI.
Look to anSSD for HD1. Way faster than anything. Stay with Intel; Corsair just ok. Size isn't that big a deal, because you just use the SSD for OS, apps, and a few games that you want to load like lightning. Everything else goes on HD2 - a 1T 32 meg cache perhaps?
The resident Guru (DST4ME) swears the Xeno is a total rip-off. I believe him.
Upgrade fans are noisy and unnecessary. You're going to have plenty of pretty lights as is.
The temp display looks bitchin, don't it? I'm informed it's readouts are inaccurate, and you can monitor temps w/software. Up to you.
OC on video cards is a total waste. You may never, ever actually be able to see any difference w/two of them.
You want Win 7 Pro. It runs XP mode which enables you to run legacy apps/games on your system.
Don't want to tweak the OS, they may disable something your unique self actually wants active. If the Os can slow this beast, I want to see the day!
Hope this helps.

why a 2Gb 5870?, why a 1250 watt on a 5870? you can 2 on a 750 watt, HX model especially... if they ever wake up and stock tem. lol
need 2 480's or 2 5870's to max out any of the demanding games, but the average game, yes one card

he doesn't play crysis and games like that so one card will be fine for him.
we dont' have the HX here, so I'm not sure where you want me to pull that from, lol, how many times have you said that 2 x 5870 and oced 920 with a 750 is pushing it, but here yoyu want me to give it to him, which it is pushing it and why I didn't give it to him, but I wanted to give him the 1000w corsair, and looks like I forgot it, once he responded I would have caught it myself, but thanks for pointing that out I game him the 2GB version so that if he plays games like gta4, he is covered, I figured since he had has large budget might as well give him the little extras that down the road or with some games will actually make some difference. but he has the psu and mobo to add a second card if he feels like he needs it. |

HX would be great, but then what will happen is that the base price of the configs will be higher.

HX 750 is $30-$40 more than the TX, folding it would not take too long to get your money back on energy savings. lol but yeah it is a pretty big price hike, but the HX 850 is $60-$70 less than the 1000 and I would much rather have the 850.. lol more quiet, more efficient, better built, and for multi GPU, nearly a tie in max output, but way more stable..

Ya but keep in mind that the price difference might be like that at newegg, here I'm sure the base price hike would be higher.

well there is no config that will let you max out crysis like that but if you want, take which ever build you like and add a second card to it, and change the LC so that its for dual cf/sli.
