Hi everyone, I looked into getting a new machine some months ago but didn’t get round to ordering it. I see there are a number of a new options now including CPUs and video cards. Please let me know what you think of this build. Primary use will be gaming (fps, flight simulators, strategy) and movies. No work if I can avoid it. Monitor resolution is 1920 X 1080. Budget: hopefully less than $2500. I like the Raven for its cooling performance and because it’s quiet. I can save a significant amount going with the i5 (vs the i7), 4 GB (vs 8 GB), and the GTX 570 (vs GTX 580). From what I can tell, and for my resolution, I will not see much improvement choosing the better components or more memory. Is this accurate? For fun I chose the higher overclock (4.0 GHz – 4.7 GHz). Again, it seems to me the Noctua U12P should be up to the task, but I don’t know for sure. The most painful part is the 160 GB SSD (but I really want it). Maybe I’ll wait until next month to see if the new drives bring the prices down. Last question: will the P8P67 board permit me to put the system in sleep mode? I really like this on my current machine, I suppose however that with an SSD and an otherwise quick computer boot times will be fast anyway. Thanks! 501158 $2359.00 Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - SilverStone Raven 2 |

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will wait for the new SSDs.
DST4ME - I notice you changed the case from the Raven to the HAF. Any particular reason other than price? Personally, I like the cooling and low noise of the Raven (although only on the basis of what I've read not personal experience). Any thoughts on if there will be a problem with sleep mode? Thanks again. |

90% of your noise comes from gpu's fans when under load, otherwise, the haf is not loud either, and it has better airflow with 4 x 200mm fans.
sleep mode itself seems to be buggy sometimes, I would just put the monitor to sleep, I don't put my other pcs to sleep at all, I always endup having some dumb issue with it, b it xp/vista or win7. |

For whatever silly reason Windows still hasnt fixed its issues with sleep mode that it has had for the last +15 years. They have just applied big bandaids. |
