Sup guys,
If my core i7 is overclocked to 3.2 ghz will enabling turbo boost have any negative effects on my overclock and will I see any performance differance...What I really want to say is how safe is it running turbo boost if your machine is already oc'ed. |

Turboboost is, for all functional purposes, an overclock which is part of the design. Stacking it on a 'normal' overclock is not a good idea; turboboost should be disabled if you intend to overclock significantly. It is primarily meant for stock speed processors.
Hmm, getting a sense of deja vu...I swear I posted something almost identical a day or three ago... |

Turbo mode is no problem to enable on X58 i7's.
P55 i5 and i7's have to have SpeedStep enabled for some weird reason to get turbo mode enabled, and I would suggest not running an overclocked chip with speedstep until it is stable. |

Speedstep yes, but Turbo just adds an extra 1x onto the multiplier. There will be no issues with it enabled.

It doesn't turn on/off randomly, unless you have a sh*t board. Most boards will give you the consistant 1x. Unless you enable C3/C6 you will get another 1x on top of that on one core when load conditions are right, which could cause instability and bluescreens if not tested right. If you are already oc'd and stable, then sure leave it off unless you want to go higher. Edited by venom - 05 Oct 2009 at 4:46am |
