Just wondering I have this 2 or 3 year old 32'' LCD. Would this be suitable for a computer monitor? It has a resolution of 1366 x 768. It does come with vga cables for computer hook up, but I keep hearing people say that certain lcds wont look right when hooked up to a computer. This is the link for the actual tv http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/olevia-lcd-tv/olevia-lt32hvm.html
Its already packed away and pretty hard to reach at the moment, which is why I was hoping someone can inform me if it would be even worth it to take it out to try.
Thanks Guys!

LCD TVs do not make the best monitors, lets say a 24" monitor would have a max res of 1900X1200, while the LCD TV you mention would be lower than this, even 1080p sets are lower than this at 1920X1080.. There is also this thing about input lag. All in all depending on your system and what cards you have go with a computer monitor.

I have a single GTX 295 running on an evga mobo. Core i7 920. Don't know if any of that makes a differance. I hear 50/50 from people. Some say their tvs look beautiful with there computers others say its horrible. Does the fact that it is large at 32" with such a low resolution make any differance? The closest resolution my gtx does is 1280X768. Also have 1290X800 and 1280X 960.Probably not good enough to look right?

1366 x 768 is a pretty low resolution for gaming. I'm guessing that you won't like the results.

trust me if you see gaming at 1900X1200 or over it will completely blow you away

Another thing to consider is that TVs are made to be viewed at a distance while monitors are close range affairs. Now if you're planning on using a wireless keyboard and mouse and sitting 5-8 feet away from your TV in a lazyboy, you'll be better off... where as mounting this particular TV (with the large screen and low res) right on your comp desk like a monitor, you'll probably feel like a little kid with his face pressed against the screen and see the actual red-brue-green pixel lights.

using a TV as a monitor is a bad idea

I was wondering about this myself.
I know that Samsung makes some LCD monitors that have tv tuners in them, is that a better option? Edited by pwcorgi - 22 Feb 2009 at 9:02pm |

I have a 23 inch Samsung 720p monitor upstairs and my pc downstairs hooked up to a Sony Bravia 46inch(2nd monitor) and ill tell you what. The picture with blow you away.My father also has his pc hooked to a 26 inch sony and the picture is not so hot.It all depends on how the tv scales the picture from the pc.i wont even play racing games on my pc monitor any more.the tv is just so much better. As far as FPS games id rather play them on my 24" pc monitor,46" is just to big.Its all preference and the type of LCD tv you buy.
