Hello, I hope this isn't a repeat post, I wasen't able to find information about this with the search feature.

I'm interested in buying a laptop and I saw that one of the options I had available to me was an "External TV tuner"

What exactly is that?

I don't watch enough TV to justify a cable bill, but there are a few shows I miss watching (thanks to the Daily Show and Colbert Report posting all their shows online this problem is mostly eliminated, why don't all shows do this?) but this TV tuner seems reasonably priced.

Are you only able to receive free broadcast networks?

what ever you cable allow you to get is what you get.

what ever channels you can get right now you can see on your PC via the tuner

The digital tuner card will come included with an antenna so you can receive over-the-air digital broadcasts.

If you had cable service though, you can plug your cable into it, and recieve all the cable programming. The tuner card works the same as your tv. It will get whatever you plug into it. Its just a standard tv coaxial connection.

I wonder, can you configure said antenna to catch paid channels for free? Ouch
