When I first started to get into computers, I would buy different magazines to keep up with current trends in hardware and software, over the years I neglected to keep up and now I am planning on buying a new computer when I have the money.
 
My question is this:
 
What is a TV Tuner used for?  I have suspicions, but would like to know for sure.
 
The household I live in gets cable internet, but only connects to a wireless router, all the computers are sharing that same closed encrypted wireless connection to the cable internet.  They have cable TV as well, of course.
 
Does a TV Tuner mean I can watch TV on my computer?

yes a tv tuner allows you to watch tv on your pc.

The best part, I think, is that your computer then can be used as a DVR/PVR without buying Tivo or renting one from the cable company.  The downside is that HD is a little trickier.  Definitely a good deal tho' IMHO.  Been using one for years now.
