Hey. I bought a DS computer about a year ago and i've been really happy with it so far (well, it appears my vid card died on me a week or so ago, but we're working that out now... i just have to figure out a way not to get gouged on shipping to Hawaii).
However, my 8800GTS is getting a bit long in the tooth (I should have waited for the GT!) and I was wondering about upgrading to a GTX280 or a GTX260. However, judging by the description of its size (a good inch or two longer than my current card), I just don't think it will fit in my Twister Lite. I'm really kicking myself now, because I meant to buy a pretty future-proof system and this could be a major snag. The casing for the HD sticks out into the video card's space. So: Has anyone with a Twister Lite case from DS managed to fit a GTX280 or GTX260 in their case without sawing something out? Or, perhaps, an ATI 4870X2 (dunno if it is any shorter)? The painful irony is that when I bought my system, they were out of the case I wanted. So I downgraded without a thought. If that choice to save $30 bucks costs me $200 now, i'll cry. ![]() |

8800 GTS is 9" long.
HD4870 is 9.5" long. GTX 260, GTX 280, and HD4870X2 are all 10.5" long. |

Why don't you wait for the 55nm gtx's to come out, they are due out in Dec.

Hm. Is the HD4870X2 the same length as the HD4870?
Oh, and will the 55nm cards be any smaller or cheaper? I heard Nvidia was going to try upping the price tag and pretending it is a whole new flagship series (in reality it is cheaper for them to produce 55nms....). |
