I have read the FAQ's, and it says BUILD TIME is about 5-10 business days, but what is the shipping time?
I am thinking either between this or a dell XPS 420, same configuration, roughly the same price, but I like these better because I can get XP, but the XPS has a ship time of under one week
I also see you guys have better customer support than Dell, but I don't want to wait a month for a new PC to arrive
Just looking around, I plan on purchasing a new PC roughly mid-may

I'm really split, to tell the truth, because with the dell I get more RAM, a better gfx card, better processer, and a 19" monitor at the same price
But I don't want vista..................:(

Your paying extra here for the better build quality and vastly better service. oh..and the 3 year warrenty vs 1 year. Also keep in mind the mobo for the 420s isnt that great performance wise I believe its a generic 650i. Also your more ram is gonna be basiclly wasted, because dell REFUSES to sell 64 bit OS's. Namely because they didnt want to deal with the tech support driver issues most dell users would probably call in with.
I find it very hard to duplicate the specs of a dell machine with a DS one, mostly due to MoBo, powersupply, and Case differences, but you can get something fairly similar, but i find it highly doubtful that dell would use better componates on anything
Also note that while with Dell youll have to pay a sales tax no matter what state you live in, with a DS machine you dont have to unless you live in California.
Sorry if this sounds harsh, I just like you started looking at Dells myself for a computer, I was looking at 720 Red, until i found this place, and noticed just how bad Dell was ripping people off with inflated upgrading costs and vastly outdated stuff on their "high end" gaming computer. Hell id take the extra cost for a machine just to keep the bloatware that dell would put on the OS after installation.
While dell may offer a better cost, you gotta think of the other various aspects where youre gonna lack in. And that is overall service, build quality, warrenty on that build quality, sales tax, generic vs name brand parts, Bloatware vs none, and the original OS disk vs an OEM disk.
Personally ive choosen DS for about all those reasons i just mentioned above.

Also Dell still uses proprietary hardware. In some, if not moust systems you can not upgrade using generic parts. I don;t know if its stil true but at one time you could not even upgrate the PSU.
And I'm sure Dell does not do anywhere near the burn in and testing at DS

Then again... you're supporting a large conglomerate that, despite their advertising, is more interested in mass-produced hardware. Wouldn't you feel better about supporting the "little guy" and pay someone who will put quality into your equipment?

Fair enough, though my only grievance with DS is that I am forced to buy a crappy AMD instead of a good Intel processer because I can't execeed like $1100 However, as for the ship date, can anyone tell me what's the average, or what yours was?
thanks alot

cant exceed 1100?
thats hardly a grievance with DS, more like a grievance with the market
im really interested to see what system build you have with a 19" monitor thats less than 1100 total
what are you really looking for here? i mean DSO is smaller, slower, and more expensive than Dell (in some ways) becuase of the community they supply: bleeding edge computer gaming enthusiasts. If your looking to buy some budget wordprocessing and email system, its possible a cookie cutter dell may suit your needs better
also, if you arent ordering till the middle of next month, whats another few days in shipping?
to answer your question it took roughly 17 business days from the day my order confirmed to the day i got the box. and i live in VA (dso is in cali) so the ship time was 6 days
additionaly, dell is only offering vista because xp is on the way out the door, unfortunatly. I loved xp and still do, but vista is here to stay and its going to be mainstream in no time, no sense in resisting that just to pay for it later Edited by !ender_ - 06 Apr 2008 at 6:42pm |

No, I want a gaming PC...
I live in Texas, so what estimate would that be? Honestly 17 days is ridiculous
And xp is the best so far, and it's going to be supported for at least another year, so I'm going with that

Never mind about the monitor, I would rather get a FS7600. I prefer CRT's for their superior picture quality
Although I hate non-flat panels, but the FS7600 is a flat panel so that's settled
Also, there is an irritating bug when I type, it moves the field around and highlights random targets....bug?

They do a better QA process then Dell, where they at the very least stress your system for 72 hours, if anything fails they fix it..and do it all over again. So if you are time constrained this probably isnt the company you want. |

I can see the build time is being a huge factor for your purchasing decision. Let me clear up something up first: We have systems that ship within 4 days, 7 days, two weeks. It really depends on your configuration. If you ordered a paint job, or if you want us to water cool the entire system and configure two separate liquid loops (one for the processor and one for three video cards) it can take some time.
Based on your build, it shouldn't take that long. Especially lately, we been fairly good with getting builds out as swiftly as possible.
Also, with Dell, they mass produce the units, they don't allow a level of customization as we do, they also stress-test units by testing random samples. Here, every machine gets tested, and when I say tested:
- 24-hour stress test on your: processor, memory, and video card(s) (total of 72-hours)
- Benchmarking to ensure your system is operating at the performance it is configured for
And that build time covers the time it would take for us to stress test, benchmark, and replace/tweak any components to deliver you nothing but a quality high-performance gaming machine.
If you want to experience a true immersive gaming experience with a high-quality machine backed with U.S. based life-time toll free technical support, Digital Storm is your choice Edited by Alex - 06 Apr 2008 at 7:52pm |

DSO vs Dell= No comparison. Ive had Dells and although they have run good for me,there were times i would have loved to reach threw the phone and strangle someone.Ds systems are so much nicer and believe me,they are worth the wait.We just ordered my father one and that will make 2 DSO systems in the family. gdfrtrjyuymynnfnfmf,f.d d s s s ss s s sbbsbshhsss, kfutyrhrbrbrhthttototottiititotototptpror, can you read this? Thats what you'll be be trying to understand calling Dell support !!!! I am being totally serious.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about build times, but I would like to offer an observation about the build/ship timeframe of 17 days that ender! mentioned.
DSO Receives Order: day 1 Verify credit, Schedule build: +1 day Stability testing and benchmarking: +3 days Final QA, package and ship: +1 day Time in transit to ender!: +6 days This would leave about 1 week (5 business days) for the actual build, which includes time to enter the build queue (other people are also waiting for their systems). $1100 for a true gaming system is *rough*. However: $1108 |

It's not like it is priority, but nothing exceeding at the most 2 weeks, beyond that it's ridiculous
A quick question, is the Athlon X2 5200+ a good processer?
I was thinking
550W power supply
Athlon X2 5200+
2 GB RAM
9600GT
320 GB HDD
Windows XP Home
The games I am looking to play mostly are Valve's games, and Oblivion, and some others
Also, how upgradeable are DS machines?

The 3 year warranty is also an attractive feature, though, as with Dell a 3 year warranty is an additional +$280 roughly............ But, does the warranty (at DS) cover accidents? |

DSO uses retail components in their builds. There is no need to go and buy special components in order to upgrade later. Just order through your favorite etailer or buy at any brick and mortar.
Warranty The 5200x2 is more powerful than the E6400, which is the entry level Intel offering. I play Oblivion, Bioshock, Supreme Commander, and BF2 with zero issues on a GeForce 8600GT. The 9600GT is twice the card. You're going to love the system you have picked out. |

So it's just as upgreadeable as any custom built PC?
Like with some PC's they are good.......but not so upgrade friendly.......

It *is* a custom PC
. That's the thing. When you buy a Digital Storm, you're buying a quality build like you would be getting at other boutiques charging three times the money. The tech support isn't some random phone operator reading from a script, but a knowledgeable computer tech.Call on Monday, and discuss your needs and budget. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised. edit: And yes, it is *highly* upgradeable. Edited by Tyler Lowe - 06 Apr 2008 at 8:56pm |

You know, Dell's arent that bad of a solution for the majority of computer owners. Namely, people on a budget that dont know anything about computers and will never upgrade that system. Well, people in general that dont know anything about 'puters.
If you do want upgradability and stuff though, build it yourself or talk to DSO. As far as shipping time goes- mine was shipped in 8 days even after an order change. I used the free shipping and it was delivered 6 business days later. I was very satisfied. |
