I'm on my way home from a family vacation, a few weeks ago I ordered a U3011. I just checked my email and it's been delivered. One thing I did notice ( I should of looked at this sooner ), is the refresh rates for both of these monitors are 60hz. Does anyone on this board own these? For 1,300$ you would think it would have a better refresh rate.
edit: My question is, am I going to use the Displayport, or DVI? Also, since this is my first time using SLI, how are the connections wired? Example: 2 DVI's plugged into monitor or just one DVI? I've read on some reviews the 27 inch has blurry text, but the 30 inch doesn't. I'll be home in a 2 days to test it out myself.
@DST - You stated for the native resolution for the U3011, you insisted that the 2 6970's would be better than, x2 580's. Isn't 1 580 enough to power 2560x1600? Edited by zangetsu - 03 May 2011 at 5:25am |

I just upgraded my monitor from the Dell 2707 to the U3011, and while it isn't a huge difference in size, it's enough of a difference to make me glad I made the change. As far as refresh rate is concerned, LCD monitors don't have the flicker problem that the old CRT monitors did, so you shouldn't notice any difference between a 60 Hz refresh and 75 Hz. I know I don't see any problem in that area with my U3011. Text and graphics are exemplary, although text can be a little small. Easy to fix by zooming in when you need to.
I have dual 580 GPUs in SLI, and am using the DVI-D dual link cable supplied with the monitor to connect to a DVI-D connector on one of the 580s. You must use a dual llink cable in order to achieve the 2560 x 1600 native resolution of the U3011. The 580 does not have a DisplayPort connector. One nice feature of the U3011 is its great connectivity. I used to use a DVI SL switch box to switch my 2707 monitor between the PC and an Xbox 360 -- now the U3011 has two DVI inputs, as well as DisplayPort, HDMI, VGA, and component video, all selectable from the front panel. The 580s have more than enough capability to drive 2560 x 1600. The only problem I've seen is with the game Metro 2033, where maxing out the settings at the highest resolution causes a bit of a slowdown. I dropped down to 1920 x 1200 for that game -- everything else plays perfectly at the highest settings. DST was probably referring to the fact that the 6970s would have more video ram, which could make a difference in some situations. |

Ya, I know that 60hz wont flicker on a LCD, but I wish it was 75 hz. Though I don't see 75hz coming sometime soon... maybe 1-2 years for 30 inch monitors. Even the NEC expensive ones are 60+hz (I think).. but 2400$ for a monitor is beyond my wallet.
Appreciate the information on the connectors. I haven't ordered my computer yet from DS, because my GF is also a gamer... and she understands computers. So if I buy a new computer, she's also going to want one lol. Few more weeks though.. I do plan on playing both Crysis, but my intention was probably going to lower the resolution so I'm not taxing the crap out of my GPU's. But all others I'll have the native res. |

AT 2560 x 1600 if you want high aa settings the 2GB vram of the 6970 will do better then the 580 sli, this is for gaming of course, otherwise for everything else to run that res, a 560 could do that, but for gaming at that res, no a 580 will not do great.
the refresh rates are not gonna go to 75 or 80, they have gone to 120 or 240, but not for IPS yet, so yes you get better refresh rate but its on a TN panel that has less picture quality. |

2560x1600@60hz is the limit of a DVI-D (dual link) cable. Until they move to a faster cable format thats the best you're going to get.
