Disclaimer: This is a review based on my opinion alone, but there are some things you should know when dropping 1,400$ on a top-of-the-line monitor. Note: I've had to RMA this monitor twice. Once due to shipping damage (the box this monitor ships in has NO PROTECTION on the side of the monitor inside), and the second due to the hue-coloring being different on the bottom area of the monitor.

Pros
:

- Gorgeous colors, huge!, so much room for activities (pun intended) ! Looks amazing during gaming sessions, the bezel is small.

- This thing is like a TV! Photoshoppers will love this thing.

- The viewing angles are crisp. . . as if viewing directly at it.

- It's nice and sturdy, no gloss bezel. I could go on for days about this monitor..

Cons
:

- Well if you're looking into buying this monitor be warned, there is a problem with the hue-coloring being different on certain areas of the monitor. Now this problem disappears if you turn up the brightness to 100%, but if I turned up the brightness on this thing to 100% I'd go blind. I sent the monitor back for RMA replacement. The second one came back with out the hue-coloring issue.

- It's only 60hz. . while most people will not notice the refresh rate on this. . .  I for one prefer a monitor that can pump out 75+hz. 12ms~ obviously with a 30 inch monitor you're going to have high latency.  Now is it to an extent where this is a bad product? Absolutely not. . .

This is Dells trump card monitor, their flagship. If you're willing to fork out 1400$ and money is not an issue, you should look into NEC's 30 inch monitor. While the Dell U3011 is still a wonderful, amazing monitor. . . the issues I've had make me wish I forked up the extra 800$ for the NEC's 30 inch.

While this is only my opinion, I wanted to inform the peeps of some first hand usage.

zangetsu, thanks for that review. I was thinking that in the future I want to put another GTX 580 in my machine and then either add one big monitor (like your 30") or add two more U2311's to the one I got and do surround. Right now I'm leaning to adding two more since it would be cheaper for me to go that route.
Either way, one big screen or three smaller ones is a lot of screen to look at. Right now I find my nose pressed against the sreen looking for bad guys in BFBC2. I can't imagine what it would be like with more screen square footage. LOL!!

Zangetsu, when you game on it, do you notice any input lag? From what I understand, the scaler hardware in that monitor cannot be turned off, which supposedly adds around 16ms of input lag, while HP's previous-gen and current-gen 30"s doesn't have a scaler at all (the downside being that then you can only do 2560x1600 native or 1280x800 in-monitor-pixel-doubling, while your graphics card needs to do the scaling for all other resolutions before the image goes to the monitor, meaning no consoles or standalone blu-ray players will work with it).

I've played BFBC2, WoW, Starcraft 2, Crysis, and Dirt. I for one cannot notice any input lag. I'm 24 so my eyes aren't that old, but I've seen a few reviews saying it's noticeable. To me though, I can't see any lag. As I already said, people who usually look into this monitor usually don't have money issues, or are willing to fork that much loot up. IMO if you're going to look into the U3011, you might want to check out NEC's 30 inch flagship.

A few people always wonder if you should go x3/x2 monitors or a big 30 inch monitor. I for one will always go with a 30 inch, I've tried gaming on 3 monitors but I could never get used to the bezel between the monitors. I don't want you guys to think the U3011 is a bad monitor, because it isn't. This thing is sexy, and I've had a few lan parties and most of my friends are 100% jealous of the color/size of the monitor.

this is great to hear. I my self didnt want to risk spending 1000$ on a monitor and notice ghosting or some of the issues ive heard. Probaly by the time im ready for another monitor IPS will be much more solid for gaming and not being a case to case basis.

There is not ghosting issues, none of the owner of u30 we have on the forum have ghosting issues in games.

you can get teh u30 for $1100 if you wait it goes on sale.

the nec is a better monitor for more money of course.

I agree that single large monitor is better then multi monitor but that is a personal preference.

One person's review is not the end all of what a part can do, read all the reviews on the forum about this monitor and/or any other parts you are looking at from many other users, then try and come to a conclusion. If one person says its good or one person says its not good, it does not really mean anything, its that person's experience. We need to look at 10 or 20 people's experience and see on the average what most say, since not everybody has the same experience/review.

This is why all reviews are appreciated, so that we can have a look at as many users and see at the end what the consensus is.
