My work is in architecture. I have used different computers since the 90s, when computers were better than the commodores that were one of the first. This was in a time before windows... the wild west of a novelty home computer which had little use. Times have changed a lot!
over the years, I have been through over a dozen computers from HP to Dell to Alienware to custom made to others including velocity, which I thought was the best and discovered it wasn't once received (after spending 7k) and had computer problems immediately after getting in which was sent back and forth to Richmond for repairs, leaving me to having to purchase another computer of the shelf to keep me working... the pairs of the new computer took over 6 months for them to figure out it was the power supply... poor quality control!
a few months ago my velocity computer had a major crash and I lost 3/4 of my work, even with raid. replaced the drives and then video card crashed and had to replace that too. the computer was 4 years old - for the amount I spent I expected a few years more.
After much research, I was deciding between Bizon and Digital Storm... I did not want to waste money and I wanted to go above the minimum since renderings and 3D design needs a lot of power for performance otherwise you loose a ton of time for renders taking up to 8 hours and there can be cutting corners but that reflects poorly on you
After getting quotes from Bizon and Digital Storm, they were comparable. I ended up choosing Digital Storm mainly because of one person, Brian Holden.
Brian helped me tweak the specs I thought I needed and even brought the price down with reducing some of the components in which I ended up increasing more such as adding an additional graphic card, and upgrading ram and processor which was chosen by me, not Brian Brian was not your typical salesman, trying to get you to spend more, quite the opposite. He provided guidance and took the time to explain the differences and redundancies so that I would be able to achieve the best results for my system.
Since I was fortunate to have a good size budget, I did not cut corners, ending up spending enough to go on a very expensive, exotic, vacation.
Some of the specs I choose started with the Aventum Pro workstation. I am using the AMD Ryzen threadripper Pro5975WX 32 core 4.5 ghz processor; about 60TB storage with a SSD for c-drive of course and Iron wolf for other storage; 2 - rtx 4090 24 gb graphics that are liquid cooled; hydolux cooling
receiving the computer was interesting, coming on a pallet via fed-x. Fortunately I knew, when I saw shipping info from fed-x, that the computer was 150 pounds!!! WTF, this was heavier than most women I dated! Prior to receiving the order, I made 4 other purchases since I am a one man show. The first thing I ordered was a new monito, a samsung 55" odyssey ark (split for a 4 screen use, using bigtoys fun zone download), A 18" desk height heavy duty table from Iceberg to support the monitor (75 pounds) and add a little more distance from this massive monitor, a 500lbs capacity hydraulic scissor lift table cart to allow me to raise the computer from floor to desk after moving around - and also used to move with no additional help, and a furniture cart with a strap to be sure nothing topples over bringing up the stairs... this was pretty painless doing by myself.
getting started was fine, however I did have a glitch The internal lights were not working. This not not affect anything and was cosmetic so I wasn't bothered. I sent an service ticket to digital storm and received a email and a phone call from Adam Huisen very shortly after. The communication and solution was near immediate and was simply to fix - the power connection that plugs into the lighting board disconnected from shipping and too a few seconds to plug back in... Adam also did a follow up to make sure everything is good...
My takeaways from my personal experience is what sold me on why I am pleased with Digital Storm is 1. product quality is exceptional, 2. People; between Brian and Adam I am confident in making the right decision; 3. Packaging, this things was so well packed that the chance of damage would require a outside force to purposely cause damage - this was extremely well packed - no cutting corners, no air bubble wrap!
Last I will leave any potently buyers with a warning. If you are ordering this, keep in mind that these are not off the shelf cheap computers. These are custom, well built systems. With this you will be happy in what you purchase but I suggest talking this over to be sure you hit all the marks of what you intend to use it for (gaming, architecture, business, etc) since each use will need more in some components and less in others to get the best performance. Being that these are custom computers you need to have 3 things; 1. money for a high end computer, 2. time, 3. patience. I ordered 2 custom computers. One was mid range for one location and a very high end for me. One computer took about a month and the really high end took 2 months. I know they do their best to get computers out as soon as possible, however, the fact that they put quality over slapping them together makes me more confident and no regrets in making the right decision.
Finally, the last comments. Based on my 2 purchases would I buy what I did again? yes. do I have any regrets? yes! what is my regret? not knowing about them and not ordering sooner!!! Would I recommend Digital Storm? ABSOLUTLY!
