I received my Digital Storm pc about 3 weeks ago.
My specs are: Windows 7 (64bit) p67 Sabertooth i7 2600k oc to upto 3.9 GTX 570 8gb ram Corsair 750TX psu HaF 922 and Logitech LS21 2.1 stereo speakers I have a few issues and while I've looked around but I just can't seem to figure out whats wrong or what I can do about it. 1. Sound: When using a decent quality of headphone (plugged directly into the jack on my case), even with my pc volumes set to max, I cannot hear anything while playing games, and I can barely hear anything when watching dvd's. I am sure it's not the headphones as even with my 6 year old pc I can hear things just fine in games and movies. When plugged in via my speakers system I can hear both in games and movies, but its still way way too quiet. 2. Sound: My speakers themselves, While anything heavy bass like comes in pretty loud even when set on lowest bass settings, in most situations it's hard to hear dialogue in both games and movies. My other problem stems from the problem that games that my specs blow out of the water I still cannot play on high settings. the 2 I will example here are, Mass Effect 2 and Fallout New Vegas. Both of these games frequently end up with app.crashes, anytime I set the resolution above 1280x760 (I don't remember if thats the exact rez, but its in the ballpark) and/or if I set the graphics settings above medium qualities and/or with AA at higher than 2x. I was really hoping to be able to play games at my monitors max res (which is 1680x1050 on medium to high or better settings) with this computer, and from what I have read about computer specs, there shouldn't be any reason why I can't.....and yet.. I cannot. Any help, advice, or reference would be greatly appreciated. Thank you |

I'm not sure if those speakers are USB or powercord+headphone jack. Considering those speakers are pretty much the cheapest worst quality you can find these days from logitech..
Do you have a sound card? or are these plugged into a headphone slot from a sound card? Try updating your video card drivers.

@Vigoon1st,
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you are having. We'll be more than happy to help you resolve all of them. 1. Do you have your headphone or speakers plugged into the green port on the back of your motherboard? Also, your speaker mode should be on 2.1, I believe you may have it currently set to 5.1 or some multi-channel mode. 2. The stability issues you are having may be a driver conflict. I was unable to look up your order with your forums account to review our testing reports. Try to re-install the latest graphics driver and see if that resolves the issue. If not, please contact our support team on Monday so we can help you. Feel free to email as well ([email protected]) with your order number and I will be more than happy to create a support ticket for you. |

I'm not quite sure where to find what channel mode my speakers are on, I clicked the speaker in my task bar and then clicked the speaker icon on that, but while I saw lots of different options (all set to the lowest options possible) I did not see anything for 2.1, 5.1, or multi-channel.
The speakers are yes plugged into the proper port on the back of the machine. As far as video drivers, your techs installed the latest drivers for it, (I found this out when I went looking for newer drivers incase that was the problem, but indeed the driver you guys installed is the latest one available) I'm not surprised you weren't able to look up my account. This pc was purchased for me by another person, and that person doesn't have (nor do I expect would be interested in, making one) There might have been an order code of some kind, but I don't have that handy at the moment =( |

with one 570, you should be getting around 55 - 60 fps average if not more.
try installing older drivers. run MSI Afterburner and see if you pass combuster tests. |

Keep in mind that both ME2 and Fallout: New Vegas are very unstable games, New Vegas in particular is very bad in that regard just like the other games that use the same game engine, Fallout 3 and Oblivion. They have a lot more driver conflicts (both video and sound cards) and even with all the correct drivers and everything they'll still just plain crash on their own a lot, so save often. It should have nothing to do with what resolution you play them at.
Ironmb already asked, but I didn't see a direct answer: Do you have a sound card? |

@Vigoon1st,
1. Go to your control panel and see if you can find something called with the name "REALTEK" or something similar. There should be options inside of that. 2. Try un-installing and re-installing the graphic card drivers with a previous version. 3. Email me your serial number, there should be a white Digital Storm sticker on your chassis. |

To find the Realtek that Alex is talking about go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Realtek HD Audio Manager, and click on speakers. In this section click on stereo and you shouild be good to go. You can also set the volume here too.

I would def try reinstalling video card drivers, uninstalling the old ones and putting new ones in. Just to give you some reference i ran a single gtx 260 on a 1680x1050 panel and was pegged at 60 fps(with v sync) with mass effect 2. Without vsync on a 260 would get north of 100 fps.

Ok was having a hard time finding this because nothing in my control panel or Sound and Hardware was listed as Realtek, I did ultimately find what I believe you both were referring to, but it had some generic name.
It was already default on Stereo. Will be attempting to get the ticket number for you tomorrow Alex. Honestly I am a bit nervous about uninstalling and then installing drivers. While I have done this before on other pc's, I can never quite remember the exact way to do this right, and always end up missing a step. where can I go to get a step by step guide for uninstalling/installing the drivers? |

Honestly I didn't really understand how to set up the menu exactly right, and while I could find a page that listed the last 20? scores tested, I couldn't find one that mentioned what my score meant. All that said, I did download and test it all out. My score was just over 6000 (I don't know for sure what resolution it tested on). temperature was roughly 70c FPS was just over 100. Again I don't know what all that really means as far as the Kombustion test goes. As far as video graphics in these games, Ill give an example from Mass Effect 2. I had all settings on high, all visual effects except for motion blur and film grain on, playing on a resolution of 1680x1050,and AAx2. Graphics looked great(at least compared to what I am used to) Very first fire-fight of the game involving 3 or more enemies shooting at me while I was shooting back= Appcrash. Still going to try this uninstall/install drivers for my vid card, Hopefully thats all it is. Just didn't make sense to me with my computers specs how a game would crash with so little(compared to my hardwares power) going on in game. Edited by Vigoon1st - 13 Jun 2011 at 2:04am |

Could be the new drivers, which is why I recommended using an older set, all drivers don't play nice.
1. go to nvida site and grab the new version of the drivers for your os, and grab a set of older drivers (one before this one, no betas). uninstall drivers, if you have CCleaner you can do it from the uninstall window of it, if not, then just go to add/remove programs, uninstall all the nvidia drivers. reboot, upon getting to your desktop, don't let windows install drivers, instead run the new drivers you downloaded earlier from nvidia. reboot again, now see if that helped, if not uninstall again, reboot, this time when you get back to desktop, again don't let windows install drivers, this time install the set of older drivers you downloaded earlier, reboot, see it that helped. |

I've LS21s as well, and have noted that there is a significant manufacturing defect present in mine and a lot of other LS21s out there. Whether it's still present in models being sold today, I've no clue, but the defect lies in that the subwoofer jack that connects to the satellite speakers is very finicky in producing a good connection. Try to reseat the cable that goes to the satellite speakers, since the jack will often produce either good sound, or noise-laden sound, even dropping the left speaker. You may also want to spin the cable around in the jack; from personal experience, spinning around that cable in the subwoofer jack will give me either good sound or a lot of noise in my audio.
If you look on Amazon's reviews of the LS21, you'll see that a lot of people complained of the left speaker dying on them; I was one of them too until I just reseated the satellites' cable and got my left speaker back. Additionally, I'm pretty sure you want outputs sent as stereo 2.0 instead of 2.1. From what I'm thinking the LS21 does, it's really simply taking a stereo input and channeling all bass to the subwoofer while channeling treble's to the satellites. Both the sub and satellites don't get their own specialized input from the sound output on the motherboard/sound card, as it's the input plug on the speakers is just a single stereo cable. LS21's are good budget speakers, with the only two drawbacks being that I don't believe it's true 2.1 audio, and that the satellite speaker jack on the subwoofer is ridiculously picky. Well evidently Nvidia released new drivers in June that I hadn't come across.
I followed DST4ME's instructions for uninstall/install of the drivers, and while I haven't tested it on Fallout yet, there is a vast improvement in Mass effect 2. Everything on High res of 1680x1050 (i don't know my exact framerate, only because I don't know how to get it to show in game) but no discernable framerate issues. I noticed that a HD Audio driver was included in the Nvidia package, I don't know if that affects my system in any way, so it could just be coincidence, but since installing the new drivers, the sound coming from both my speakers and my headphones has much louder and clearer sound. Though my headphones now give off a weird echoing sound during direct dialog scenes. I haven't tested it yet with other games or movies but will be soon. Thank you all for the help. (and thanks for the info about the subwoofer needing to be adjusted, I'll keep that in mind). |
