This applies to mobile devices but some company has found a way waterproof any device with no case or other item. Nothing is noted about the cost at the moment, being new I'm guessing it's not cheap, but it does bode well. I think everyone knows at least one person who has spilled something on to a phone or laptop or something or worse and this is a great solution.
Vid here I would not be surprised to see things like the tough-book market start offering their devices with this coating already applied and when it gets cheap enough see phones being sold with it. |

Back in the 70's we experimented with Hydrophobic paint to prevent Hoar Frost. Water touching the surface would roll into a ball and not penetrate the surface. We had a tower over looking the Yukon river in Alaska. The Hoar Frost would completely encase the tower, antennas and waveguide. We had hoped the Hydrophobic paint would help but it didn't. The paint cost a big bunch of money for a gallon.
With the cell phone I wonder if it is still water proof after you remove the back? Frank |

I'd love to do that to a sponge and then watch people try to use it.

I've had my home page set to Yahoo for more then a decade and it was from a link on Yahoo that I first saw this video and it's not fake. If you do a search on Yahoo news you will find another article (link here) backing up the claims as true. These guys were at CES this year, putting on this demonstration in front of the most important people in the electronics industry and none of them were able to show it was fake. There have of course been all sorts of unfounded rumors posted on the internet since the vid was released, such as people claiming the iPad 3 and iPhone 5 will come pretreated to be water proof, but those rumors being fake does not make the technology fake. |

Its also not that expensive to have done. You have to ship your phone to them so you could be without a phone for a few days but I was surprised how cheep it was. The link to their website is:
