I may be able to afford a DSO later this year but I have been having difficulty determining what Intel will offer (and when) this year and what it will really mean for performance and cooling.
Wolfdale, Nehalem etc soooo confused.
I am really interested in quad offerings. What Mobo will support these units or what Mobo will be offered?
Can someone help the senior citizen noob out?
Harry
BTW, there was a earlier post this week suggesting DSO set up a forum section for this type of stuff and I agree. Would be a big help to keep track of whats going on for GPUs, CPUs and Mobo.

Wolfdale (Intel Core 2 Duo [45nm]) releases this month. More budget wolfdales will come in the second quarter of this year.
Yorkfield (Intel Core 2 Quad [45nm]) releases this quarter. 780i, 790i, X38, X48, P35 motherboards support both Wolfdale and Yorkfield. 680i motherboards will support Wolfdale through a bios update. Nehalem is set to release in Q4 2008 / Q1 2009. These CPUs are socket LGA1366 and LGA1160 which will require new motherboards. For performance, these processors will have 2/4/8 cores with 4/8/16 threads. Heat output will be the same as the earliar 45nm CPUs. ![]() Edited by skyR - 15 Jan 2008 at 12:27pm |
