Good, don't format anymore unless its absolutely needed, which is when the OS does not work and repair does not fix it
defrag once every 3 to 6 month good luck Edited by DST4ME - 20 Apr 2009 at 2:58pm |

I've been using a program called FileHippo.com (an Update Checker) that scans your computer--listing all your programs--then telling you which have updates available. I Haven't had any difficulties with it...but, that's not much of a reference...anyone else use it/have information on it...or similar programs that let you know--when something is out of date?? Reason I mention it...cuz it told me sometime back about the new CCleaner update.

We used it at KLT and did not care for it much, it didn't cover all apps, it didn't tell you when the new version was out right away and I found it to be messy and also they use then filehippo realizes when the software is out which is not necessarily the actual time the new version is out.
most times you can just visit a software site like KLT to get an actual real-time update or just visit the apps site real quick. |

Thanks...I'm sure you're right on both counts--(1) it isn't always as "current" as they would like you to believe. (2) it doesn't cover everything.
You mention visiting a "software site...like KLT" (is that "KLT.com" or ???). I've got to admit...the business of keeping everything up to date and running seems daunting at times--most of the time really! Guess that's why I liked FileHippo...it gave me the illusion of being current...and I admit...I did feel pampered not having to look up the status of each program individually... Got anything (programs) like that for us over-taxed non-computer geek types...who feel like we're pushing a rock uphill most days.

KLT is a site that I'm a co founder of, its "Kool Lite Tools" or "KliteTools" just click on my image that says klitetools and it will take you to the site. its a site with only freeware, not adware, trialware, malware or anything like that.
Problem with site like hippo is that they are trying to update too many apps and they don't have the man power do to so, I mean it will take a lot of people to keep those apps up to date, lot of times places like that actually get their updates from sites like ours. Wow, impressive-I like the brief explanation of what everything is--along with the date (and not just the version #)...Mucho Thanx!
Looking at your number of posts...with a little effort (and maybe another cup of coffee tonight--you could blow by the 10,000 post mark--ya think? Does the lucky winner of of your 10,000th post win anything....Do you win anything ha, ha...
@Alex...surely, 10,000 posts is somekind of record....is DS considering giving DST a free tour of the DS facilities...or something equally worthwhile?? Edited by Zardoz8719 - 20 Apr 2009 at 4:50pm |

LOL post counts mean nothing, its the quality of the posts. Jason has already told me they help me out for my efforts and have been more then very kind so far anyways.
To be honest what I win is a bunch of people who have the best PC their money can buy from a reputable company, which is what I'm here for so at the end I'm getting what I want every day and that just makes my day enjoy the site, lot of people work very hard so we can have those apps and they are all tested by a member of KLT extensively, we don't just add apps, it has to be tested by one of our reputable members or team members for 2 weeks minimum so that any bugs or anything that is not wanted is caught before submission to the site Edited by DST4ME - 20 Apr 2009 at 5:30pm |

It's pretty obvious...your motives/heart are in the right place--alot of people are grateful for that--me included. This is not to say...there arn't (many) others here--equally generous/dedicated...just that few "pound the pavement" assisting others as frequently. As Spock would say..."Live long and prosper".
