Hi! Newb question here:
I have a 2 year old Vanquish 3 with a GeForce GTX 960 graphics card. I recently got an Oculus Rift and have been using it but am interested in upgrading the graphics card for better performance (probably to GeForce GTX 1080). Do I need to buy/do anything else besides get the new card and swap it out? I've run into some power issues recently (driver_power_state_failure crashes) and want to make sure I don't also need better power/bigger hard drive to successfully run a more powerful graphics card. Thanks for the help! ____________________________________________ Here were my order specs: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Pre-built Digital Storm VANQUISH 3 - Level 2 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i5 4590 3.30 GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS/GIGABYTE (Intel H81 Chipset) (MATX) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series Power Supply: 600W EVGA/Corsair Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (120GB Samsung 850 EVO) Storage Set 2: 1x (1TB Seagate (7200 RPM) (64MB Cache) Storage Set 3: - No Thanks RAID Config: - No Thanks RAID Card: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 4GB (Includes PhysX) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio HPC Processor: - No Thanks Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: High Performance Cooler with Large Fan and Copper Pipes H20 Tube Color: - Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Fans: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Airflow Control: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks CPU Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my processor Graphics Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Memory Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory OS Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-Bit Edition) |

The gtx 1080 upgrade is no problem. The 600 watt psu is all you need. The hard drive doesn't impact the graphics card, other than loading scenes if that's how the game is written. An SSD will load and refresh scenes faster if the game is on that drive, but that can be said for even your gtx 960.
