    Posted: 14 Sep 2017 at 3:16pm
Hi Everyone. I have a 6 year old Digital Storm ODE Level 3 Desktop purchased back in Nov 2011. It's still super fast and faster than any other desktop or laptop I've ever used. I still love it. However I'd like to upgrade it a bit with a budget of roughly $500 to spend. I'm already needing to upgrade my 120GB SSD to 256GB because I'm out of space. I'll probably throw WIN10 on there. What component upgrades should I prioritize? How should I spend my $500 (not including a new SSD).

Here's my system:

Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core)
Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth P67 (Intel P67 Chipset) (New & Improved B3 Revision Without SATA 3G Issue)
System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Vengeance Series (High-Performance)
Power Supply: 800W Corsair GS (Dual SLI Compatible)
Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Corsair) (Model: Force GT Series CSSD-F120GBGT-BK) (SATA 6Gbps)
Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Hitachi/Seagate (7200 RPM) (32MB Cache)
Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x)
Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections)
Video Card(s): 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology)
Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio

Extreme Cooling: Digital Storm Vortex Liquid CPU Cooler (High-Performance Edition)
H20 Tube Color: - Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected
Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans
Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Red)

CPU Boost: Stage 2: Overclock CPU 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz (Requires Pro or Deluxe Series Motherboard)
Graphics Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s)
Memory Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory
OS Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system
Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition)

Thanks for your feedback.

Will

I would replace the sli 570s with a single gtx 1070. Much better frame rates, much lower heat and draw off the psu and quieter.    I had a single 570 and it was great in its day but was noisy, threw a lot of heat.

For 1920x1080 monitor even a gtx 1060 will give you excellent gaming but the 1070 gives you more longevity as games get more demanding.

The overclocked 2600k is still a decent processor and 8gb ram is still all you need.

Hope this helps.

actually, i'd up the ram to 16GB with the graphics upgrade mentioned already by bprat.  is your oc proc still holding well?  it could be a bottleneck at 1080p for that gtx 1070 in cpu intensive games.  however, if it's oc'd to 4GHz or better you should be fine with the upgrade.  the higher the resolution the more it shifts performance to the gpu.

i'd also recommend you try your hand at a 1440p monitor with the graphics upgrade.  if you would rather stay at 1080p then i'd recommend the 1060 for graphics upgrade.
