I am looking for some input on what i can upgrade on my PC to get better frame rates. When i bought my PC i was using a 24" 1920x1080 monitor. Now i have a 30" 2560x1600 monitor. Here is what i got
Chassis Model: Cooler Master CM Storm Scout (Black OPS Edition) Processor: Intel Core i7 930 2.8GHz (Quad Core) Overclocked to 3.8GHZ Motherboard: EVGA X58 Micro Edition SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x Samsung 512GB SSD Video Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Noctua Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler (Compatible With ONLY i7 Processors) I am thinking of picking up a 670 4GB card. I would do SLI but not sure if the 750 PS would be enough. Thinking of doing this instead of just replacing the whole machine. bron |

Hi Bronwen.... The gtx 670 will give you about a 50% better frame rate for alot of games. The 750W psu should handle a sli gtx670. If it was a new build i would suggest a bigger psu for more headroom, but its not worth changing in your case. The 4GB vram card hasn't been shown to help much in games, except on Skyrim for example with it loaded with hi-res texture mods. Can't say for all games or the future so your call of course.

Thank you for your input. If i was to build a new one i would go with a minimum of a 1050 watt PS. The only reason i was looking at a 4GB card was because of the resolution i am playing at. Right now i am playing games like Skyrim, TOR, and GW2.

There is alot of discussion on 2gb vs 4gb vram out there. Some swear that BF3 and Skyrim maxed out uses more than 2Gb and others from personal experience say no. I have yet to see a bench that shows 4 gb is useful unless you get into 3 monitor surround, but I really can't say for sure.
And future games...who knows?? EDIT here's an article that tests a 4GB gtx680. The conclusion pretty much says 4GB does little. http://www.guru3d.com/article/palit-geforce-gtx-680-4gb-jetstream-review/26

Found one. Need to start testing out my system now, hard to do though as so much of my time is in GW2 now. :(
