I'm sure this gets asked all the time, hopefully everyone isn't too annoyed by this question... I'm looking for the most cost effective way to upgrade the machine below. I'm guessing the biggest bang would come from a new video card, is that right? Can that MB and PS handle anything on the market right now? Thanks!

System Configuration:
Processor: Intel Core i5 4570 3.20 GHz (Quad Core)

Motherboard: ASUS Gryphon Z87 (Intel Z87 Chipset) (Features
Thermal Radar) (MATX)

System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested)

Power Supply: 1000W SliverStone Strider Gold (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) (ST1000-G)

Graphics Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 4GB (Includes PhysX)

Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex 240mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler (Extreme-Performance Edition)

H20 Tube Color: - Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected

Chassis Fans: Upgrade All Fans to Corsair Airflow Performance Edition (Up to 6 Fans)

Chassis Mods: Fan Blow-Hole: Graphics Card Area Only: Laser Cut and Mount a Side Window 140mm Fan

CPU Boost: Stage 1: Overclock CPU 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz

Graphics Boost: Yes, Overclock the video card(s) as much as possible with complete stability

Memory Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory

OS Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system

Welcome to the forum joshbrooklyn!

Yup, I would expect best noticeable upgrade would be a new video card, and then I’d say maybe add 8gb more RAM for a total of 16gb.
Both are pretty much plug & play easy upgrades. You have plenty of PSU power for just about any NVidia GTX 1000 Series or RTX 2000 series card. Asus Z87 motherboard & i5 CPU will still play ok. Would keep the rig playing longer before it’s time for a more involved overhaul.

Agreed.

Check out the new GTX 1660 Ti from Nvidia. I will nearly double your current video performance for ~$280.

Go to Crucial.com for a scan that will recommend a match for your current RAM, but you might prefer to replace it all. Be sure you get DDR3.

I have the Vanquish 2 from early '13 with the same CPU. I upgraded my RAM to 16GB, added another SSD and upgraded the GPU to an EVGA GTX1070 with a smaller PSU than you've listed with absolutely no problems or issues.

IMHO, that's all you'll need for a while longer now.

*edit .. words are hard ..

If you dont wanna spend much, just upgrade your CPU to i7 4790k and GPU to whatever your budget is. Right now best bang for buck is GTX 1660Ti or RTX 2060.
