With the 10 year anniversary of when I got a Vanquish II Level 1 coming up I think it's time to upgrade somethings.. It's been a great computer, nothing has went out or wrong with it. All stock.
Current Components: CPU: AMD FX-4300 Vishera 32nm Technology RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz (9-9-9-24) MotherBoard: ASUSTek Computer INC. M5A78L-M LX PLUS (AM3R2) Graphics: 2048MB ATI AMD Radeon R7 200 Series (XFX Pine Group) Monitor: Acer H236HL (1920x1080@59hz) Storage: 465GB Seagate ST500DM002-1BD142 ATA Device (SATA) I'm open to any suggestions, I don't have any experience with building or upgrading computers at all. I'm not looking to make some god tier computer mainly looking to boost performance. |

It's not hard to boost performance after ten years! Everything you need in a computer has advanced almost unbelievably well. It's good to know if you intend to keep your same monitor resolution. It also helps to know what your primary uses are.
Assuming you are primarily going for a gaming rig, I suggest you look at the Lynx "Best Sellers". This is the same category you purchased from last time around. If you are happy with 1080p on your monitor, you would be very happy with the Lynx 2 "Better" model. At 1080p you could easily upgrade to a higher refresh monitor capable of up to 144 frames per second with no worries if you wanted to. That card is a ridiculous 1300 percent better if you have neve upgraded your graphics. The CPU is rated ~80% stronger. The speed of the storage provided will blow you away. This rig will boot well under 30 seconds. More RAM, 50% more CPU cores and 400% more threads, and a GPU capable of excellent results at 1080p will have you playing games your current rig can't touch if that appeals to you. All this and some RGB goodness as well. It's hard to believe you're still limping along with your stock Vanquish, but this upgrade will certainly make you smile, and take you several years down the road. If you have any questions, we're here. |

have to agree with Cretae. the $1,300 Lynx "better" build will blow your hair back (assuming you've got some, lol) compared to what you've been using. i wouldn't bother with the Lynx level 1. the "value" between the two isn't even close. if you want to venture into 2K i'd suggest 1 of the higher tiers. for 4K you're gonna have to move beyond the Lynx systems. you'll also have to factor in the cost of a 2K/4K monitor.

I guess the question I have is do y'all think it's time to send the Vanquish on to greener pastures and start fresh or is it worth it to bring it back up to todays standards?

Agree with db188 here. It's not incorrect to say you could keep the 10 yr old rig going longer, you could...but I think the smarter money would be better invested in an all new DS rig with all the latest tech onboard that could actually go another full ten yrs for you.

As of this writing, imho, there is nothing worth upgrading on the Vanquish II stock. It's time to move on. As mentioned above, the Lynx machines will blow your socks off if you've stuck with the Vanquish for this long without any upgrades. Prepare to have your gaster flabbered! |
