    Posted: 16 Jul 2020 at 10:57am
Good afternoon,

Recently i have been considering upgrading my PC to meet with the demands with some of the newer and more graphically demanding games like for example BO4 on the highest settings. I am by no means tech savy, so i wanted some advice as to what are my options to pimp out my PC. I have a barebones Lnyx Desktop - Config ID 2491499 (hope that helps).

Thank you.

First and best, get a video card (GPU). Stay with 1080p monitor resolutions and you will always have the less expensive upgrade path, but will get excellent results, IMHO. You could get what you want to afford from a 1660 up to a 2060 ("non SUPER"). I think a 1650 might not be quite enough to please you, and a 2060 SUPER would probably not quite be worth it. Do some checking and see what others say about the cards.

In the market place, you will find a 1660, a 1660 SUPER, a 1660 Ti, and finally a 2060. Each is incrementally better than the one before. Prices start at around $220. You must be careful that you compare 1660s to 1660s and 1660 Supers to 1660 Supers. Prices can be all over the lot!!! A particular model 1660 can be priced the same as a 1660 Super, but it won't be as fast. I have found that sometimes Best Buy has good quality cards at very good prices, so try to check there before you decide.

If you get confused (easy to do!) come back and ask specific questions if you need to.

After that's all settled, some day down the road you will probably want to step up to 16GB of RAM. You don't have to worry about that right away. Some high-end games can use more than 8GB of RAM, but they will all run on 8GB.

Hi! I am not OP but I have the same question. I have a bare bones Lynx Level 1, config 3059876. I bought it at the start of covid stuff because I was working from home and wasn't that concerned about the gaming aspect. Now though, I'd like to be able to run things like PUBG or CSGO.
Will your suggestion that you posted work out for me as well? I have no real pc building knowledge but I think I could do these things.

Yes, same rig, same suggestions. Googling the cards will get you a ton of info on each if you look at reviews.

Do you know if my lynx rig has the cables to plug in the card, or do I need to order that too?

Yes, they're there. They are routed to the back of the motherboard and bundled to stay out of the way with a cable tie or two. Take the back panel off the case and have a look.

Remember you have lifetime tech support, and that includes helping you with upgrades if you need it. There is also a still relevant guide available here in "View Our Support Guides" The legendary DST4ME in "Upgrade/Add Graphics Card". Take a look at that for a preview of the cables to look for.

Ok. Last question....please forgive me. I'm a total noob.
After looking around at reviews, etc....

This should work for me, yeah? Anything else I should add right now?

I think that's an excellent choice near the high end. You will not need more.

The explosive improvement you will see in your gaming should be quite enough for now, IMO. Don't worry about other upgrades until you think you need to. See how it goes, you should be very happy for quite awhile. Let us know how you do.

Awesome. I bought this: https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-rtx-2060-06g-p4-2068-kr/p/N82E16814487486?item=N82E16814487486
And this: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3000MHz C15 LED Desktop Memory - Black, Model:CMW16GX4M2C3000C15 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D1XJWSJ/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_zAVgFbKSWJ4MM

That should, from what I see, go in fairly easily. And be able to run everything I want it to. Thank you so much for the advice.

Fine choices. I wasn't sure you had the budget for more than the card, so the RAM upgrade wasn't priority.

I got a 2060 super along with upgrading my ram to 32GB. It may have been expensive but i am sure enjoying games now on the highest settings along with decent framerate. Thank you for your suggestions.
