Looking for some advise on a rig from 2014 that still does almost everything I need (AutoCAD, Adobe, etc.), except I can't edit 4K video (Premier Pro). I replaced a fan along the way, otherwise it's performed flawlessly.Would it be worth while to try to upgrade, or should I just replace this system? System Configuration: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Corsair Obsidian 550D Processor: Intel Core i7 4930K 3.4GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Six-Core) Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth X79 (Intel X79 Chipset) (Features USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s) System Memory: 32GB DDR3 1866MHz Corsair Vengeance Pro (High-Performance) Power Supply: 750W Corsair CX Expansion Bay: - No Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (256GB Samsung 840 PRO) Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (1TB Western Digital - Black Edition) Storage Set 3: - No RAID Config: - No RAID Card: - No Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 3GB (Outputs: 1x DVI-I ; 1x DVI-D ; 1x DisplayPort ; 1x HDMI) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex 120mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler (High-Performance Edition) Chassis Fans: Standard Factory Chassis Fans CPU Boost: Standard Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 Automatic Overclocking Thanks in advance for comments.

You could upgrade the video card to a 2080 SUPER and then when the unit does die get a new system with the cheapest GPU you can find with the intent of replacing it immediately with the 2080 Super.
I just replaced my i7-4770K system that had a GTX 970 video card, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. My wife now uses it and it was an upgrade for her. If you start swapping the mobo you may as well buy new or do all the work yourself. |

I would say upgrade. If you are up to building it yourself you can find the AMD R9 3900x(12 core CPU) for $399-$429 all over the place, and it comes with a decent stock air cooler. If you don't want to build then I would definitely suggest something similar through DS.

Thank you! Just a quick question what is "mobo" referring to?

That system is still good for another number of years by changing only the video card. What resolution is your monitor? That will determine what card to get. Also, if you can wait some (month or two), the new NVIDIA cards are reputed to be coming out and they are supposed to be much better and will make the current crop cheaper. Your cpu is still good and your RAM is plenty albeit slow and one generation old. Good luck and keep us posted.

While I would agree with this if he was looking to upgrade for gaming, for editing he said that his rig works for all but 4k editing in premiere pro. I am tracking that premiere pro is mostly CPU intensive with the GPU doing some side tasks while rendering. So with this being the issue I would say to upgrade the CPU, motherboard, and RAM. You can reuse the rest and upgrade the GPU at a later date. If you are comfortable swapping out parts it is an easy upgrade and RAM prices are pretty decent atm(I picked up 32GB(2x16GB) 3600MHz Trident Z Neo for about $180 last fall). If you aren't comfortable swapping out parts then I would definitely recommend having DS put something together for you. Depending on your timeline Hoserator is absolutely right about it being worth the wait for the new GPUs and it could be worth waiting to see what the new AMD Zen 3 chips look like. |

Big thanks to everyone who provided input! For what it's worth, I currently have two of these monitors: HP ZR2440w 24-inch LED

That's my monitor as well for the last 10 years. I'm still so pleased with it, I can't consider an upgrade.
