I have a Digital Storm I bought in 2012, and it has been great, it continues to work well but it starting to show its age so I would like some advice on upgrading or going new. Specs for my computer follow, one of the reasons I am thinking of just upgrading is because the computer runs well and I really don't have room for a second computer of this size. The only thing I have done to the computer is add a blu-ray player. Thanks for the advice!

My personal opinion is not to upgrade components if they are 3-4yr old, I believe your whole system is roughly 8+yrs. I think you had a great run but its time for a new complete system Edited by adambomb13 - 17 Dec 2020 at 10:01am |

Agreed. You have to change everything in that box to have any hope of longevity going forward. Even very modest parts these day will absolutely KILL your performance. Is it the case you're attached to? I wonder if DS would build new into your HAF X?
Despite parts shortages, I would still hold out for an AMD build for the PCie Generation 4 platform vs Intel, but up to you. Even a 6 core Ryzen 5 5600X is about a 40% better CPU. An RTX 3070 beats your SLI by 200%. This is a sample budget build that comes in at $2382 after discount in a Lynx case that comes stock with RGB case fans. There are no compromises in this rig for solid 1440p gaming at high settings IMHO. 3654623 $2382 All SSD and an RTX 3070. If you are on a 1080p and like it, sub in an RTX 3060 Ti and save $162. Got a different budget in mind? Come back with a monitor res and a number.

Thank you for the reply and for the build, I will look into going that route. I am not really attached to anything I just was not sure if upgrading was an option. Appreciate the quick feedback!
