    Posted: 14 Mar 2009 at 2:41pm

My new system (i7 920 pre-built) is only coming with 3gb DDR3 1333mhz, I wanted to upgrade it but the sale person said I couldn't on a pre-build.

Anyway, I'm thinking of ordering 6gb DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800), so when my system get here, I'll have it. I'm not really an overclocker and my system will be oc'd and I'm wondering if DS changes the voltages with the timings and If I put the new sticks in and just change the timings will I lose my OC.

Or should I just put 6gb of DDR3 1333 ram in. I read that the i7 920 1600 ram is better of overclocking. Like I said I'm not an overclocker but going to try and learn.
Any help would be nice.
thanks for your time,
ed

I wish you the best of luck in having them add ram to the prebuilt.  But to be honest I am thinking that would defeat their purpose of having prebuilts that have gone through system tests.

But Harleyman is right, a phone call to DS would let you know in a few minutes what their position is on this.

I was looking at maybe adding another 295 to my system which has already arrived and was considering getting it from DS. They have a $29 fee to stress test and benchmark it before shipping if one wants that done.

But the good news is that a phone call gets you accurate information that will help you make your decision.

I think you will be happy with your Digital Storm purchase.  I just love my new beast!!!!

Thank you Onkel_Ken,
I think I'm going to just wait until I get the system and go from there.
As the sales person said, I can't upgrade the pre-built. No biggy,
I can add the ram myself, I know how to change the timings and voltage if need be. But I will call them before I do this.

if 6GB of 1333MHz is much cheaper go with that, you will never notice the differece between 1600MHz and 1333MHz ram.
