Ok so the problem is that we don't know what parts are in vanquish since they don't specify and each user can have different parts.
if you can tell us what mobo you have I can help you better. How much ram do have now? |

Which version of the z170 boss?
I'm assuming you are not using cpu-z. Have a look here and get the stuff you need, atleast cpu-z and run it and it will give you all kinds of info on your mobo/ram/etc. I would not add ram till I was sure I needed it, I have a feeling the way DS setup your ram, you have to get rid of what you have and buy new 16gb of ram. once you have the mobo model from cpu-z, give me the model number and how many stick of ram you have, then I can help you. You can also go to Crucial.com and use their memory finder tool to scan your rig and recommend guaranteed compatable ram. You probably have 4x ram slots but I would just get 2x 8 gb at 2666 MHz. Replacing all the ram lessens any mixed ram issues.
You can buy the Crucial or just use the specs for Amazon shopping. Corsair, Kingston, etc are all good.

But if he knows what kind of ram he has then he can just match it so there will be mixing ram issues, which where cpuz comes in.
OH Hi bp

What up, doc.
But with Crucial.com he has the option and specs to either add with 2x 4 gb sticks or replace with 2x 8gb. One stop shopping. I tend to not populate all DIMM slots if not necessary because of memory controller, but that's more of a past issue. Haven't heard much about it in a couple of years. Or, CPU-z and go that route.

I like Crucial also but the problem is that it won't tell him what he has now, IMHO you should know what you have and what you are getting. Maybe thats just me
Once he knows what he has I was gonna send him to Crucial or corsair Edited by DST4ME - 21 Sep 2016 at 3:52pm |

No, not just you. I also use CPUZ to see what I have. Maybe that's because we're info junkies. Tech rocks.
I think we're both getting him there, just following reverse routes. I'm getting dizzy. Edited by bprat22 - 21 Sep 2016 at 3:55pm |

Upgraded my Vanquish to 16Gb... Issue was a mobo with only two available DIMM.
The app at Crucial read that, offered a replacement, I upgraded and was really surprised at the cool blue racer LEDs... No muss or fuss, took 10 minutes and done. |

Thanks everyone, I'll load up cpu-z tonight on my computer. When I took a peak inside there were 4 ram slots, I have 2x 4GB of RAM in my computer. It's the digital storm brand.

Would it matter if the new ram sticks I bought are ddr3 instead of the original ddr4 ram already in my computer?

Yes you have to get the ram that works with your platform.
once you install cpu-z give us a screenshot of it and we will get you going. so you have 4 ram slots but only 2 are filled up? if so that is good since you can just add 8GB more instead of buying new 16GB, but we will look at both options and you can decide how you want to do it, just add 8gb more or go new 16GB. By the way, I have 4k monitor and I was wondering if my gtx 1060 6GB graphics card could handle running games in 4k with a decent frame rate?

Ok so as you can see you got adata ram, that is 2666MHz and has a latency of 16,16,16,39, no xmp and you get 2133MHz and 16,15,15,36.
now I'm having a hard time matching your timing but that can be set in the bios. So here is what I advise for the least amount of trouble and work. 1. Call DS and ask/buy duplicate of the ram you have (2 x 4gb) and we can add those in the empty slots. 2. forget the 8GB you have and instead of going with 4 sticks of ram go wtih the better option of 2 sticks of ram (2 x 8gb) How would you like to proceed? I can help you with number 2. Edited by DST4ME - 22 Sep 2016 at 11:44pm |

For corsair 2666Mhz ram Have a look here
or you can go to crucial site and see these 2:
or
now both those pages are 2666MHz ram, feel free to go higher if you like but you wont notice a difference, 2666Mhz is the minimum I would go as far as going lower. Feel free to visit both corsair sites and check out their ram, and crucial's site has a online scanner that will scan your pc and show you all the models of ram that they have which will fit your system. Also you can go with a different brand ram if you like, I stick with those 2 myself and have been very happy with customer service, but gskill is ok also. before you buy ask us to be sure if you need help adding it let us know. I just noticed those crucial ones are out of stock. So feel free to let their scanner scan your pc and lets see what it shows you for your system, remember we are looking for 2666MHz ram or higher(PC4-21300)
