Topic: upgrade to windows 11 error Posted: 31 Jan 2022 at 6:04pm |
I have a fairly new digital storm system from last summer 2021. Having problems upgrading to windows 11 using both windows update and windows iso. Search of the internet using the error code says that the problem is due to windows getting goofed up because of too many drives. Suggested fix is to disable all data only drives. My pc came with a built in card reader which I understand is standard for digital storm. Has anyone upgraded to windows 11 that had a card reader? What did you do to disable it? Was turning it off in device manager enough? I opened the left side of the case and I see a cable going to the reader but when I tried to gently remove the cable it did not come off. Did not want to force. Any suggestions from anyone who has done the windows 11 update with a digital storm system that has a build in card reader? Not sure if the reader is the problem or not. I have sent a similar email to digital storm tech support and waiting for a reply.

The reader is not a data drive so you should not have any issues with it. Good luck. Note: make sure you have nothing on the reader. Edited by hoserator - 01 Feb 2022 at 9:42am |

Other posts on the internet mention that a card reader can cause the problem. The error is a old one going back to windows 7 and never fixed. So yes I want to know how to disable it.

I was able to talk to tech support and while they were not aware that a card reader could cause a problem they did show me where to disconnect it from the motherboard. So I will temp do that and disable the other hard drives in bios and give the upgrade another try.

you don't need to go into the UEFI/BIOS to disable hardware. Go to the Device Manager and disable each as needed. That should work. I have to tell you that I do not upgrade OSs so no practical knowledge. I clean install to avoid issues. Good luck.
