Topic: Upgrades to Vanquish 2 Level 2 Posted: 02 Aug 2016 at 6:24pm |
Budget:
$650 Expectations: I would like to be able to play new games such as Battlefield 1 on high settings with a very smooth framerate. Usage: General Pc gaming from CS and LoL to Battlefield and DayZ Hey guys! Two years ago I purchased the Vanquish 2 level 2 and I have been loving it. I've been thinking about upgrading it, but I'm a bit lost as to what would give me the best performance. I am mainly just looking for a CPU and GPU upgrade which would probably mean that I would also have to upgrade my PSU. Any upgrade ideas that you guys have for me would be awesome, Thanks! |

Hi Cosmic, if you can let me/us know your current system specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, PSU, Motherboard, etc) and the specs of the monitor you are going to be using we will be able to give you better advice on what to upgrade.

I currently have an i3 4350 with a gtx 750 ti along with a 430 watt PSU and an Asus H81M-D PLUS motherboard. I also have 8 gigs of ddr3 ram. I'm currently using an Asus VS228H-P monitor.

to upgrade the cpu, you will need a new cpu/mobo/ram and probably a psu, aka pretty much a new system.
To upgrade the gpu you just need a new gpu and maybe a new psu. from what I can tell at your res of 1080p a 1060 will do great: The 1060 gtx and the 750 ti has simillar power needs, with the 1060 being a little lower then the 750 ti. In short get a 1060 gtx and enjoy, you don't need to change anything else. Now if your monitor is gonna be 1440p then perhaps a 1070 or 1080 for which you need a new psu. If your mobo can do sli go with a psu that can do sli, if your mobo can only do single gpu then to with a 750w so if you get a 1080 you have headroom for cpu oc and gpu oc. Awesome. Judging by the socket on my mobo, I believe I could upgrade my CPU to something like an i5 4690. Do you think this would be worth it, or if I want to upgrade my CPU should i just get a new mobo entirely?

Have not had a chance to take a proper look but if I remember correctly you are right they do both use the same socket, if it does actually fit/work (double check this) then ya cause the i5 again if I remember correctly has 4 cores vs your current 2 cores so if the price is cheap then ya I would do it, its old but for you it will fell more powerful due to 2 extra cores.
But you would still be old and would need a new cpu/pc in a year or so. Your cpu is gonna bottle neck a bit here at 1080p vs the new cpus. Once you are ready for new cpu, just get a new system, maybe save the ssd/optical drive and things like that from this pc but you gonna want need new cpu/mobo/ram. I went over budget here but these upgrades should get you over the 60 fps line at 1080p high quite comfortably, may be able to squeak over the 60 fps line at 1080p ultra on some games:
--- REMOVED LINK --- I would just add that if you would want to make this many upgrades I would personally just build a whole new rig. Like DST said you can just grab the 1060 and an older i5 and they should slot right into your current rig. EDIT: Link removed to parts site. Edited by Alex - 03 Aug 2016 at 7:50am |
