With that Z97 mobo, I7-4790K and 700 W PSU....you should be OK to use up to a RTX 2070 Super.     I’m sure you prob understand there will be some bottleneck issues from the older gear, but you should enjoy a big improvement in gaming for sure using a 2060 Super or 2070 Super.

Welcome back marmup.
The GTX 980 was a very nice card. The RTX 2070 SUPER is the sweet spot on the new cards. It is much larger physically. At least 1/2" longer. Make sure you have room. I don't think your Bolt came with a riser to install the card vertically but I don't know if you will need one. Keep us posted on your upgrade. Big%20Smile

Thanks for the responses. Maybe the RTX 2060 might be a bit too much based on my current hardware. Maybe I should look at slightly less powered card. Something along that line that would also save me some money and not bottleneck as much might be better. Any suggestions? It would need to be a 2 slot card.

Thanks

Any new card you use will bottleneck a bit with your older hardware, but that just means you don't get all of the performance you would with new current tech mobo and CPU. It's still a very big improvement in gaming. I would concentrate on using the best card you can afford.   The RTX 2060 Super or stronger 2070 Super would be the best choices.

Agreed. The 2060 is very high performance at 1080p. The 2070 is very good performance at 1440p, and the overkill choice at 1080p.

You could also look at this:

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2060-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1660-Ti/4034vs4037

for a more moderate choice.
