going to be upgrading to a muchhh more modern single GPU graphics card soon, coming from a poorly optimized double 9600 GT build, ehehe. so recently, I've hit a dilemma. originally, I was planning on selling the cards I have for a GTX 470 superclocked+ (to take advantage of the value of that backplate and the better cover plate). now, I'm having trouble deciding whether I should go through with that, or wait for a GTX 475, or better, ATI's Southern Islands 6 series that might be coming out around the fall. it looks to me like ATI's getting an edge over nvidia since nvidia's doesn't seem to have anything slated to compete with the 6 series yet, do you think it'd be worth the wait? ATI's drivers I'm not really that concerned about, drivers fail sometimes and they get fixed eventually. sometimes they don't even fail the way they're supposed to, I ran nvdia's 196.75's for months without my fans dying or my GPUs frying, lmao.

if you have the $$, get the GTX 470 now, but don't get the ones with added crap. last I looked I still have the world record for the highest overclocked stock cooled GTX 470, with none of that marketing gimmick crap added. And I can go higher, if someone beats me. lol
It is just a way to get more money for the same product. don't fall for it. Get a plain jane, lowest price GTX 470 and overclock the crap out of it, if you want.
every 6 months there will be either a new generation architecture, or a re-vised architecture in the GPU world, so you can always wait, or just enjoy it now.

ive said this in a few different places, this is a losing battle, there is never a right time. no matter what you do or what you buy it will soon be out dated and it will soon be cheaper than what you paid. you just have to pick what you will use when youre ready to buy and buy it and dont look back

there is never the right time to buy hardware, but getting whats good now at least makes you less behind later on.
I had the thought that if semi next-gen stuff is already coming out in a few months, why not just wait and nab that since I'm already in the zone to upgrade. as in, every 6 months there's a revision or redux, and that 6 months is counting down for ATI at the moment.
