I strongly advise you limit your ambitions to 1920x1080 monitor resolution (1080p). It will give you lots of clarity, bright colors, and responsiveness without costing an arm and a leg. You really should choose a monitor first off, because size and refresh rate might factor into which card is right.

For a 27-34 inch 1080p monitor capable of displaying 144 frames per second, I would recommend an RTX 2060. They can be had for around $340. A 2060 SUPER is more than you would need for most games, and would start about $410 and up.

For a less demanding, (and therefore, cheaper) 1080p monitor, say 24-27" and 75Hz refresh capable up to about 100 frames per second, a GTX 1660 SUPER would be my recommendation at ~$230. There is a 1660 Ti model available, but they go around $290, and I would just go for the RTX 2060.

Keep in mind that 60 frames per second from any monitor on any game has been the benchmark of acceptability. If you have refresh rates and framerates above that mark, it's gravy. Either card I suggested here will deliver plenty of "gravy". Most games, especially the popular ones, allow the user to set graphics settings before you start. The suggestions I've made will allow high to ultra settings at very good framerates. There is no shame at all setting your game down a notch or two, and there is not a great deal of difference in 90 frames per second versus 120. Many people can't tell the difference anyway, without monitors side by side.

As far as monitors go, there are dozens of 1080ps under $300. An "IPS" panel is better than a "TN" panel for slightly better colors, and especially the viewing angle. A TN panel starts to fade if you don't sit directly in front of it.

You will want to upgrade to 16 GB of RAM eventually, but IMO, that's not a pressing issue. I don't know the game that won't run on 8GB of RAM. A few will state that they can access more if you have it, but you may not run across one of those for awhile. Not an immediate pressing need.

At some point you will want to upgrade to a solid state hard drive. They are much faster than mechanical hard drives, and will be a great performance boost. You might want to let your needs develop a little, so you know what you want there, but you could start researching and shopping around a bit soon. Just about all the SSD sellers have a decent product, and it's not necessary to overspend.

If you have more questions, come back.
