Im looking to upgrade my 8GB DDR4 2133MHz ram to 16gb. Do I need to worry about cpu or motherboard compatibility if I bought say,Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 3000MHz?

CPU: i5-6500 3.2GHz

If you’re changing all the ram to new sticks then no compatibility issues with the ram sticks themselves.    Mixing old with new can be problematic sometimes if the timings don’t match. Plus, the lower speed ram determine final speed.

The motherboard will determine what speed you’ll get, meaning some might not give you the 3000mhz. Depends what mobo you have.   After installing the ram, you might have to go into Bios and select an XMP profile that the ram is tested for and the mobo will like.   Ram comes with XMP profiles .

Sage advice from bprat22... I usually tell people adding RAM that you should match the speed and timing numbers on the current RAM to avoid issues.   You can download a free copy of CPU-Z from filehippo or other sites... Among the info that program will provide on your cpu and mobo, look at the memory tab...note the timing numbers will be listed as “Clocks”.... Should be similar to 9-9-9-24.....If you search Corsair or Newegg for DDR4 2133 mHz RAM you can also add your timings and shop the matching kits to buy.   Good ay upgrade.to do!
