Topic: Vanquish 4 Level 2 Posted: 23 Dec 2015 at 7:01am |
Hey everyone! I'm new to these forums, but I just ordered a Vanquish 4 Level 2 (used a different email to order, as a family member helped me out, but I'm hoping to get this one linked somehow), and I'm super excited.
I haven't ever had a truly decent gaming PC, and the last 'next gen' console I got was the Wii when that came out. The best I had PC-wise I had a computer that would run something like Left 4 Dead 2 and Fallout 3 on medium-low settings, with a playable framerate. So when I found out Fallout 4 was coming out, I knew I had to finally upgrade, and I wanted something that would run games really well, but not kill my budget. After researching for some time, Digital Storm seemed the best option for me, and the Vanquish line was the only thing I could find with enough power for the money. Right now I only have my old monitor, which does have an HDMI port, but it's only 1600x900 resolution. So I think the NVIDIA GTX 960 4GB should run FO4 on Ultra nicely, maybe with a few tweeks? What do you guys think? I've got several other games on steam that I can't play currently, due to the graphics, that I'm really looking forward to playing (Bioshock series, Dead Rising 2, Dead Island, SOMA). I even bought Dead island for full price years ago and never could play it! Plus I'm an artist, so I may end up needing this machine for other things, multitasking, some minor video editing/stop motion capture, maybe some digital painting. Anyways, enough rambling Can't wait to receive my system, never had something even close to this, so I'm sure I'll be impressed!! Thanks Digital Storm for all the help already! (some silly payment issues on my part, as I'm not used to buying something over $500 online, usually) |

Congrats on the Vanquish level 2.
The 960 will play all those games with little trouble. Maybe not max with Fallout 4, not sure, but even High settings is awesome. Edited by bprat22 - 23 Dec 2015 at 7:45am |

Thanks guys!
Yeah even on high, FO4 should be awesome. I'm excited to try out the new perk system, as I liked how New Vegas put more emphasis on the perks than 3. |

F4 comes with unlimited leveling, so all perks are available after time. Even so, the (adorable) perk chart will be there to help you build the right "lone wanderer" for you. |

FO4 uses an old engine so don't worry about not having enough graphics muscle. i also think you owe yourself a new monitor to take advantage of all that nice new hardware. there are very inexpensive 1080p gaming monitors to be had. if you'd like suggestions let me know.
welcome to the DS family! have a safe and pleasant holidays Edited by db188 - 24 Dec 2015 at 2:49pm |

Yeah the perk chart looks great, and I'm all for the no level cap. I'm a bit of a completionist so I like to (reasonably) get everything I can
I'd gladly take some suggestions on the monitor, I'll definitely be getting an upgrade, hopefully soon. I'm already at stage 7, looks like I'll be getting it earlier than expected if it ships in the next few days! So stoked |

there's actually several under $200 choices on offer. if you are inclined towards image quality and viewing angles i'd suggest an IPS. two highly regarded sub-$200 models are:
24" Acer H226HQL 25" HP Pavilion 25xw both are slim-bezel models and look great. the best 27" monitors are: a VA panel BenQ GW27670HS with fantastic contrast -or- a fast (2ms) response time TN panel Benq GL2760H you can even get an ultra wide (21:9 aspect ratio) for under $200 in the 25" IPS panel LG 25UM57 these are all 60Hz monitors. if you want to move up to faster 120 or 144Hz monitors you'll be moving into much more expensive territory. however, the monitors i have listed will be a huge step up in your visual gaming experience over what you have. hope this gives you a good jumping off place to look. |

I am running a Asus VG248QE 144Hz @1ms response time. I have been very happy with the monitor and the refresh rate is great. Now, it is a TN panel monitor so it won't pop like a IPS monitor but with some tweaking you can get it looking really good. It runs about $250 on newegg.

Will do! Hopefully gonna get some pics up of the system once it gets here.
How long generally has it taken for your systems to ship after reaching stage 7? I reached that on the 24th and I was hoping it would ship today, but it hasn't yet. |

Usually that day or the next. But, in this case the next day started the 3 day holiday weekend. I'd email them and ask. Could've shipped today. Unless they ran out of boxes, etc. which has happened.

While you are waiting why don't you send Alex an Email with the Email you ordered with, your regular Email and the number of your order with your name and address. That should get you to a registered member.

Good suggestion by Frank. Gotta have that badge.
In the meantime, double check that your email that you ordered with is an EXACT match to the one used on the forum. A capitol letter, punctuation....any small discrepancy will prevent it. |

I ended up using a family members bank account, so they put in their details. So it's under a separate email.

Alex took care of it on a Sunday? He must be rolling in overtime pay. He wishes.
Glad you have the badge and a review after you get it would be great. If you can tear yourself away. |

I received the system and it's working fantastic so far. Minor wi-fi issue, but that was all me. Boots in 10-20 seconds and plays Dead Rising 2 on max settings without any problems (only game I've downloaded so far). It barely got 10 fps on the potato I was using before Gonna download Bioshock Infinite during the night for a better test for the power of this thing This thing is so fast, and as of right now, I'm 100% happy with it. Windows 10 isn't too bad so far either. I was stuck with Vista before though lol
It was expertly packed and I saw no damage from shipping. Every connection was tight and everything looked solid and intact. The custom LEDs are a pretty nice little feature, too. I even got this nice EV3A poster The wiring is a little messy ATM, so ignore that, but I'll fix it when I get my new keyboard in, and not this POS I gave up on cleaning Just wanted to show it up and running. I'm planning on doing a full review once I've used it for awhile. Anyways, I'd like to thank the DS staff for an awesome machine and especially Alex for answering my questions, giving me updates, and generally being helpful |

Thanks, and no problem I'm running L4D2 now with a huge HD texture collection on maxed out settings and getting a steady 60-59 fps.

Cool! Doesn't the lvl 2 have the same 2 fans in front? If so, it looks like the bottom fan in the front isn't running... might want to check that out.
