Hm.. why the changes? It looks like the prices haven't changed at all for the most part - other than not including Western Digital as a possible HDD brand.
Also, any reason you're offering the Z170 instead of an H170 with non-overclockable CPUs? I felt really weird getting one with my i7 6700, but meh |

If your referring to the level 4, 6700 with z170, they give you the option to select a k CPU. The z170 with upgraded cooler makes it overclockable. Being a semi prebuilt chassis, they don't allow for mobo selection thus the option if budget allows.

Well that's what I'm saying - why even offer the 6700 with the upgraded liquid cooling and Z170? Why not just make the "ultimate" with the 6700k to compliment the rest of the build?

It's all about pricing. Not everywhere wants overclocking or wants to pay for it. For them , the level 4 gives them that plus the 980 ti. For those willing to pay more or just want overclocking, they can change the CPU.
The mobo isn't selectable, being a semi prebuilt, so this covers both scenarios. |

So I'm a computer noob, but did the video card get worse with each new line? Or am I just really dumb?

Yes, for the level 1 & 2. Level 4 has a stronger video card. I believe level 3 stayed the same. |

This is disappointing. I have been shopping for a computer for a little while now and have decided to wait a little bit. Let vid cards get better, the ones on the market come down in price, etc. This seems to be the opposite direction of what I assumed is a natural flow of things. Maybe I am just to naive here. |

Not sure what level matches your budget, but you can change the video card if you want a stronger card. For example, the level 2, and I would want the quad core CPU, for $88, you can select the gtx 970. I have a gtx 970 that maxes almost everything on my 1080p monitor.
DS tries to preselect the default configs to match their marketing price point and meet gaming needs. But, they've left open the ability to custom some parts. Not very long ago the entire Vanquish line was prebuilt with no options at all. Now you can tune the config to match your needs and budget. The level 2 with the gtx 970 is a dynamite gaming rig for a great price. I'm not DS sales , but I do know DS is tough to match. |

You probably won't see the newer gtx 1070/1080 in the Vanquish for awhile due to short supply of the cards and their price above what DS wants to price the Vanquish at, being their so called budget rigs.

According to Alex in this thread:
...and probably not see the 1080 at all. But that's just a guess. |

We simply changed default specs on the VANQUISH line, customers can still modify them to bring them to what they were previously.
The new changes are to bring some of the starting prices down and to promote other hardware. |

if I had to guess, and only a guess, a 1070 will be included by November/ December when the rush for them drops to normal levels, plus 3rd party cards. I would hope they would add it as a upgrade option atleast. the lvl3 is perfect except for the card, and I have no issue with paying more fore a 1070.

When it makes sense they will add it, feel free to special request anytime you like, it will cost extra of course but you indicated you already know and don't mind that.
