    Posted: 23 Feb 2014 at 8:52am
So ill be playing for like 20 min and then my computer will just shut off in the middle of a game. Then I turn it on again and then like 8 min later it does the same thing. Then I will turn it on again and it will stay on for an hour or so and then shut off. Anyone have any idea why my vanquish would just shut off in the middle of a game? This happens every day... Thanks! [|)] [|)] [|)] [|)]

Hi Benc1115...  The first thing to do is download and run the free HWMonitor , leave it open, and watch the cpu core temps and the gpu temps while gaming.  If they stay in the low 80s Centigrade or lower, then temps usually aren't the problem.

If temps check out, then go into BIOS, DEL key while booting, and load defaults, usually F5, save and exit.  This gets rid of the overclock which can cause issues if its unstable.  You can always restore the oc by going into BIOS again and loading the saved OC Profile, usually under the Tool tab.

If still a problem , remove one of your ram sticks and try it .  If it shutdowns, use the other ram stick by itself and try.  You're looking for a bad ram stick, which happens.

Checking and reseating  all the connections to the mobo, video card, drives is a good idea while its unplugged, but if this is during gaming, probably not that.

This could be the power supply or video card if all else checks out.   You could remove the video card and use the motherboards integrated graphics for the monitor  to stress the system using Windows Experience Index to see if it holds.

Remove anything external you might have added, like a drive, etc to lower the load on the psu.

Have you recently updated the video card drivers?  If so, then roll back to an older one.  Bad drivers can drive you crazy.

A call to DS tomorrow might be the way to go, if this doesn't help.

Good Luck. Big%20Smile

Way too hot. The system is shutting down because of cpu overheat.

Take the left side panel off. You took out the packing used for shipping?

Next, make sure the fan on the back wall, attached to the radiator, is spinning. If not, trace the wire to make sure it's connected to the mobo fan header.

Make sure the pump unit, mounted on top of the cpu, is also plugged in and didn't come loose in shipping. You can gently touch it and see if you feel it running. It also, I believe, plugs into the motherboard, above the pump on cpu_fan header.

If everything is plugged in, then the h60 cooler might need replacing. A call to DS , phone or email support, would be needed.

Just to double check... you're reading the temp in centigrade and not Fahrenheit? Centigrade is the temp that should be 80s or lower.

If that's the cpu core temp at idle then the h60 pump is probably working ok.   You need to check max temp with cpu under the load of gaming, etc, whatever was causing the shutdown. If load temps stay safe , 80s or below, then the cooler isn't the issue. Then try the other suggestion or wait and talk with DS.

Let us know how it goes.

It seems my core temps are staying around 40C with bf4 and other games. So that is not it . I am really confused because it's the time between cut offs that vary. It will be 20 min after i turn on my pc or sometimes it will be 4 hours . I'm just very confused and my knowledge of what is going on inside a pc is very miniscule.

We try to help as much as possible over the weekend, but now that DS is open, I would call or email them and have them setup a time to help you troubleshoot the problem.  Over the forums is a lot tougher on you  than having a live tech walk you through the process.  They do a great job and have a ton of patience .

removing the oc only drops the performance a small amount.  But, its something to try.  You can always put it back.  Fixing the rig is priority.   I would be surprised if it is the oc, from the symptoms, but never say never.
